With X, you can create and manage unlimited sidebars, in this article, we’ll cover how you can add new sidebars, add widgets to those sidebars and then set what pages/posts the sidebars will show on.

Getting Started

First navigate to your wp-admin > Appearance > Sidebars, your screen should look like this:

Appearance Sidebars

First we need to add a new sidebar, name your sidebar anything you want and then go ahead and click on Add Sidebar

Add Sidebar

Once you’ve added your sidebar, your screen will look like this:

Sidebar Added

On this page we can now set what pages and posts the sidebar shows on, as well as if the sidebar should show on specific Taxonomies only such as categories. As well as setting if child pages should show the custom sidebar you’ve created as well as the parent page, along with if the sidebar should show in the blog page and also your shop page. Which is perfect for WooCommerce powered sites where you can have WooCommerce specific widgets showing on the shop page.

For the purpose of this article, we’ll going to set ours to show on the About page, but select whichever options you’d like and then click Update Sidebar.

Setting Your Widgets

Navigate to your wp-admin > Appearance > Widgets and you should see your newly created sidebar like this:

Our New Sidebar

Drag across your widgets to the new sidebar that you want to show.

Sidebar with widgets added

Now you have your sidebar created, there’s only one last step, visit the page/pages you set your sidebar to show on and you should see your new custom sidebar with widgets.

Custom Sidebar showing currently

As you can see our custom sidebar now shows. There are multiple different use cases for wanting different sidebars on a per page/post basis, for example custom menu on parent pages which link to multiple child pages, custom search widgets for specific post types and many more, with unlimited sidebars it couldn’t be easier.
