Howdy Themeco,

It's time for our monthly update, so let's start with responsive styling. We're close to completing this impressive new feature, and we are on track to begin testing towards the end of this month. This has been a significant update on the engineering front, and we are very pleased with how it is coming together.

Here are some of the highlights:

  • Designed mobile first.
  • You’ll be able to change styling values for colors, typography, font sizes, spacing, and more at different screen sizes.
  • The live preview area will allow dragging to resize. It can be scaled down to simulate what a design will look like on larger screens or scaled up to see details up close.
  • You’ll be able to use dynamic content in the style controls allowing you to do things like set colors from Looper data.
  • A built-in ruler and other guiding tools will help with your configurations.

This is a powerful update, and it will set our WordPress themes and website builders on a great trajectory for the future! Stay tuned for the beta announcement.

New Videos

We released several videos in the past month including an entire series on advanced web design. If you haven’t had a chance to check them out, you definitely should.

Pro allows you to do so much more than just build your site in WordPress. Thanks to new features and functionality, you can design right in the tool and completely bypass tools like Photoshop or Sketch.

Naming Conventions

In the coming months, you’re going to see some slight adjustments to various naming conventions. X and Pro will stay the name of our two themes, but Cornerstone will be used when discussing our family of builders.

We’ve done a poor job of communicating this in the past. For example, you may see forum posts from our staff that say things like ‘You don’t need Cornerstone in Pro.’ or 'You need Cornerstone with X but not with Pro.' That is not entirely accurate as Cornerstone is built into Pro. This was further complicated by some changes that Envato required us to make after the release of Pro in 2017.

We are at a good place now to clearly and specifically define these names, so we simply wanted to give you a heads up. Nothing is changing with respect to what you have access to or how you access it.

So what is Cornerstone?

It is a family of builders that includes our Layout Builder, Header Builder, Page Builder, Footer Builder, and Grid Editor. X users must install Cornerstone as a separate plugin and have access the Page Builder. Pro users have Cornerstone built into the theme and have access to everything.

We're beginning to update all articles, videos, and documentation, but do keep this in mind if you come across older content.

There is a bright future for Cornerstone, and we’re excited to share more about it in the second half of this year. In the meantime, feel free to start using Cornerstone when referencing anything builder related — and help us get the word out :)

All my best,
Kyle
