Howdy Friends,

We have several bits of exciting news this month, so let's get right into it!

Update in May

The long awaited next update will be dropping in May. From thoughtful interface improvements to Parameters, Components, and a myriad of other features and fixes, this release has something for everyone.

For more info on Parameters and Components, you can check out previous reports, but I did want to share a little more about the new interface improvements.

The Workspace

This is arguably the most important part of Cornerstone. You spend a lot of time in this world, so we wanted to consider the best possible way to make that experience as enjoyable as possible.

Much of what you will see here will be the same as you are familiar with structurally, with a couple minor exceptions, but what we are perhaps most excited about is the ways you can customize the workspace to your particular preferences. First, let's take a look at the structure (holder icons pictured).

Cornerstone Workspace

The five options will be:

  • Outline: The outline of your entire document
  • Inspector: Where you customize your content
  • Elements: The all-important building blocks
  • Templates: Your own library plus provided assets
  • Globals: Theme Options, Fonts, and Colors

Each of those icons can be dragged out (think disconnected from the others) and placed on either the left or right side of your screen in addition to being able to be resized! So if you want 2 of them on the left and 3 on the right, you can do that. Want 1 on the right and 4 on the left? You can do that too. Ultimately, you'll be able to tailor the workspace experience to your ideal setup.

New Menu

One of the biggest opportunities we've been looking to improve is a feeling of cohesiveness between the different builders. After all, everything is Cornerstone, but there are some unique considerations for things like pages or headers or layouts. If you've ever felt a bit lost as to which builder you're in or wanted to surface more of your documents in one place, you are going to love these next improvements.

Cornerstone Menu & Native Tabs

First up, let's talk about the new menu. The new search and + will allow you to search all of your content in one place plus have a simple way to create a new document through a stepped process.

We're not quite ready to show that experience to you yet, but we've been playing around with it for a couple of weeks, and we're really enjoying it.

Native Tabs

Next is something you won't find in any other website builder on the market, and something we are most excited to introduce. Tabs!

One the most requested features we've received is a way to have multiple documents opened at once. From a data management point of view, this is a pretty significant engineering undertaking, but we are pleased to tell you that it is coming in this next release!

What does that mean for you? A few things.

  1. Every time you open a new document, it will open in a tab. This will allow you to mix your pages with your headers with your layouts and have as many of them open as you wish.
  2. In addition to the title of the page, you'll also see the document type for a quick reminder of the type of asset you are working on.
  3. You'll never feel lost as to which builder you're in or what context you are working with. It's all Cornerstone.

Design Cloud

I had hoped to share more about our plans for Design Cloud, but it is not quite ready. For now, know that all of the assets we've provided to date will not be going away, however they will be distributed a little differently. We'll explain more about this with the release, but we did want to give you a heads up.

We have a very exciting future in store for Design Cloud, and I can't wait to share it with you soon. We also have several other projects and products in the works, some of which you may see in May (including a new product from the Elite team).

The team is pushing hard to get everything ready for the release so stay tuned to Facebook and Twitter for all the latest. As always, thank-you for the continued partnership!

All my best,
Kyle
