Uber Menus versus Pro Menus

Just wondering if any of you have had experience with the Uber Menus (headers + footers) and the Pro menus. Which option has the most versatility? I am not liking any of the templates so I will make my own. Are there any technical issues with either? Thanks in advance!

Hey Grace,

The major difference between the 2 is UberMenu has a mega menu feature and it can switch to mobile menu automatically.

Pro menu however is easier to use and you get a live preview as you work on tweaking the settings. The mobile setup is not as straightforward as UberMenu as you’d need to add separate nav elements for desktop and mobile. But, I’d just recommend that you try both in a test or staging server because ultimately, you’d choose base on your overall needs.

For more details, pleas check out the Navigation elements in our Themeco Docs and also UberMenu’s documentation.

Hope that helps.

If I choose to use the UberMenu, which I think I’ll be doing if it can switch to mobile menu automatically, do I have to add code to integrate it after I first install it as one video presenter suggested? I am not sure what you mean by “separate nav elements” if it’s the same menu. Do you mean additional nav elements or edited nav elements on the mobile theme? Can you explain briefly before I read the docs? If I have to do hours of testing then forget it I will use Uber menu but if it’s a minor issue, then I will use Pro’s menu. I just need it clarified. Will the developers at Pro make it so that it’s automatic on the mobile version as well? I use StudioPress themes as well and like Uber menu, it appears exactly the same on the mobile so I am not sure why the Pro developers cannot synchronize it. Thank you.

Hi Grace,

There is short documentation that gives you the whole picture of adding navigation using Pro which you can read here. But I will go on and give more context below.

The Pro menu usage is very straight forward. You will use the Navigation Inline element for the desktop view. You can use other elements but I think the most straight forward one is that.

The next step is to hide the Navigation Inline element on mobile view and instead use one of the Navigation Collapsed, Navigation DropDown, Navigation Modal, or Navigation Layered depending on your design and taste. (Click on the name of the element to be redirected to its documentation and there you will find a link to the demo of the element to see which one you would like the best.)

Now, how you would hide the Navigation Inline element for mobile, and Navigation Collapsed element for desktop? Easy to do the process by clicking the hide button! Please kindly check the details here:

Now, if you decide to use UberMenu for some reason such as the Mega Menu feature that my colleague mentioned, you do not need any coding, and you can follow the steps mentioned in the video below:

Thank you.

Thank you Christopher! This gives me a good place to start. If you were doing a website, which type of menu would you use and why? Just curious. For some reason, this video link does not work. I end up with the blank black box. Can you repost please?

Hi Grace,

Here’s a direct link to the Youtube video, try opening it on a new tab.

How to Use Uber Menu in the Pro Header Builder

That really depends on the design, I’ll show you a few demo header instead and what type of navigation element was used.

Adventure Ten - This is using a Navigation Inline on desktop and Navigation Dropdown on mobile, please note that if you have a 2 level of child-menu, please don’t use Navigation Dropdown this is not designed for a menu with 2 levels of child-menu.

Kesclin Mckesclin - This is using a Navigation Modal for both desktop and mobile.

Three Options - This is a simple header but unique at the same time, it’s only using Navigation Dropdown for both desktop and mobile view.

Like You Mean It - This one is using a Navigation Layered for both desktop and mobile, this is a recommended menu for mobile view, Navigation Collapse works identical to this.

23 - This demo is using a Navigation Inline plus a separate button element element on desktop view. Then switch to Button plus Modal on mobile.

If your menu design is more complicated than these demo’s menu, then that’s your cue to use UberMenu.

Hope it helps,
Cheers!

Thank you for these samples Friech. Can you send some samples of UberMenu as a comparison? I decided to go with the UberMenu because there seem to be more options and everything is laid out in the style customization area where I can change from desktop to the responsive mobile version. It’s actually easy to organize and change. Plus, their videos are really good. I am glad that I asked this question!

Hey Grace,

Just a little tip when choosing between Ubermenu and Pro menu. Since Ubermenu has a mega menu feature, it is mostly used for large sites. Pro menu is commonly used for smaller sites and if your desktop menu would be different from the mobile one.

It would also be worth noting the difference in the mobile menu display. Pro menu offers modal and off-canvas opening while Ubermenu drops down. I previously recommended that you try both because that is the only way to really see what’s suitable for your project.

We don’t have UberMenu demos but you can browse the Ubermenu website here: https://wpmegamenu.com/

Hope that helps.

Thanks Christian. I want the desktop and mobile version to look the same so that’s why I chose UberMenu. I am having a problem changing the bottom footer in the UberMenu because it’s global so it’s creating the exact same size and colored bar that’s in the top menu. I don’t know why there isn’t a simple solution to pull away from the global menu and do something separate for the footer without consulting a programmer to come up with a few lines of code. I bought this theme so that I wouldn’t have to consult a programmer!

That being said, do I have this option in Pro to make the 2 menus different? Is it more flexible than UberMenu? If not, I might have to use another theme unfortunately. This is what the dev website looks like. I just started working on it.

I still have to fix the colors in the top menu but it’s ridiculous that it’s duplicating in the footer. Is there a way to make it different and not global? I am not a programmer so I don’t know how to change the footer to delete the bar and make the font smaller and a different color. The options could be better for this plugin’s menus.

I started another thread asking this question but was told they are not allowed to customize CSS so where do I go for help? I also entered the same question in the Peer Forum. Thanks. Grace

Hi Grace,

You can use the Footer builder and Navigation Inline element to add the other menu on the footer and you can change the look and feel of it independent of the top menu.

I assume that you already added a separate menu by going to Appearance > Menus and adding another one different than the top menu.

Now please go to Pro > Footers and add a new footer there. Then you will be able to add Navigation Inline element and inside the Navigation Inline element options, you can select the menu in question. Navigation Inline element has all sorts of options to fine-tune the look and feel.

Honestly, we gave you the link to check the documentation and it seems that you did not check the details. I do appreciate it if you check the link below to know how to add a footer (or header it is the same process):
https://theme.co/docs/header-footer-overview
And how to use Navigation Inline:
https://theme.co/docs/navigation-inline

Thank you for your understanding.

Yes I have a footer menu set up. I checked those links. I misunderstood. It’s confusing when using UberMenu. This link means that I have to use Pro to create a footer correct? It’s a combination of UberMenu and Pro that I have to use then? Why can’t I create a different footer using UberMenu without it duplicating? That’s the confusion Christopher.

That being said, I decided to go with the Pro header and footer because it’s simpler to use so how do I remove the UberMenu? I removed the footer by clicking off the footer menu in the Automatic Integration Theme Location. The footer disappeared. But the main menu remains even though I clicked off that box too. I did a search on the UberMenu website on how to delete the UberMenu and I found no results. It shouldn’t be this difficult to delete the UberMenu! I ended up deactivating the plugin when I couldn’t find the delete button. That’s me completely losing patience lol. At least I made a decision on which menu type to use and it’s not UberMenu! Thanks for your assistance.

Hey Grace,

To your question:

You need to create a Pro Footer whether you’ll use UberMenu or Pro’s Navigation Elements.

You may use UberMenu in the Header and Pro Navigation elements in the Footer. It’s totally up to you or what you think is best for your project.

Just an example, I have a site where I use UberMenu in the header because of its Mega Menu feature and mobile nav behavior. For the footer, I use Pro Navigation Inline element because the footer just needs regular links and I don’t need to turn them into a mobile menu.

This one is confusing. Please open a separate thread for this problem only and give us the following information.

  • URL of the page where we can see the UberMenu in the footer. Upon checking, your site doesn’t have a footer.
  • What exactly you want to accomplish? Different menu and different designs?

Yes. I also have said this repeatedly.

If you’ve added the UberMenu shortcode or widget in the Header, remove it first then uninstall the UberMenu plugin.

Hope that helps.

Ok.

Good idea! I will have to see which works best tomorrow.

I took the footer off and deactivated the UberMenu.
This is what drove me nuts! It wasn’t clear. The author needs to be more clear about the footer or have a clearer option. I will set up a topic on this tomorrow. Different menus. Yes.

I have used Pro before but haven’t used it in a while. As I recall, creating the menus was not as complicated as UberMenu so you were right Christian. It is easier in Pro.

Oh. Why can’t they just have a delete button somewhere? I didn’t even know that I had to delete the shortcode to get rid of it. I just deactivated the plugin even though I liked the main menu design. I might bring it back depending on what the Essential Grid looks like.

I am getting an error with the Essential Grid now though…a fatal error. Not sure what is going on. Should I post the message I got from Wordpress in another topic in case someone else has received the same message or should I contact the developer ThemePunch to find out what is going on? Thanks for your help Christian. I was just going to start working on the Essential Grid when I got this error message from WordPress.

Hello Grace,

This thread is getting too long and might get confusing and the topic you are asking if not related to this thread so kindly post a new one.

Thank you.

That’s the detailed writer in me. Sorry. I got my answer.
