Hey Kate,
We apologize for the confusion. My colleague suggested the use of sub-categories and the Terms Cloud most probably because he saw that the Templates and Sample Packs are Product Categories. Let’s forget about this suggestion for a moment and consider the alternative below.
By the way, the setup won’t fit in a short video so I’m sorry I cannot provide that. The long video tutorial we posted was made by a user.
Because you want to control what filters to display, Templates and Sample Packs are best created as Pages and not Product Categories. What you’re thinking is correct.
For the Templates page, set it up like the tutorial video posted by Ruenel. This one: https://youtu.be/611IwxrOz8E.
In the video, there are 2 main components you need to add to the page.
- Manual adding of Button elements as Filters (see https://youtu.be/611IwxrOz8E?t=299)
- Looper Provider and Looper Consumer set to display your products.
Note that it uses the Query String Looper Provider type so you need to be familiar with WP Query.
The Sample Packs page would be similar to your Templates page. Remember that you manually added the Button elements. In this page, you will need to enable the All Terms Looper Provider type (Product Categories) to display ALL your Product Categories.
The ALL PACKS filter would require custom JS code so that can’t be added as part of our theme support. All your projects should be displayed on first load though. That is if you will not click a filter. Remember the Fallback setup in the tutorial video.
If you need help with the exact WP Query, please consider signing up to our One Premium Support because that falls under general WordPress topic and not a theme topic.
If you need hands-on help, our Elite team can do the job for you. You can check the service here: https://theme.co/elite
Thanks.
