Layout builder using different pages

Hello,
I built a blog like page using the layout builder. So when the client creates a post using the dashboard it goes directly to the “message” page which is what we want it to do.
Now I need to create another page where they would like to create a different set of posts.
I have three questions:

  1. Can I set up the layout builder to know that these set of posts will be going to a different page?
  2. Is there a way to set up these post so that when they click the link it will automatically download an excel spreadsheet as seen in the example here? https://www.criminaljustice.ny.gov/crimnet/ojsa/juvenilearrests/index.htm
  3. is there a way to set up data-based so that when they open it they can sort the data?
    Thank you

Hello @Jennine,

Thanks for writing in!

1.) Can I set up the layout builder to know that these set of posts will be going to a different page?

Yes, you can. If you are using custom post type, you can add a condition to your custom layout page that this will be used for certain post types. And if you are just using the Posts, you can assign the layout according to the assigned category of the post. Kindly check out this documentation:

2.) Is there a way to set up these post so that when they click the link it will automatically download an excel spreadsheet as seen in the example here? https://www.criminaljustice.ny.gov/crimnet/ojsa/juvenilearrests/index.htm

You can generate the post list using the Looper Provider and link it to the respective excel file that is added in the post.

3.) is there a way to set up data-based so that when they open it they can sort the data?

Best Regards.

I don’t think I am using a custom post type right?

Also, I have an archive page that is set up for the existing blog. Will I be able to set up an additional archive page for this page without interfering with the other one?

Hello @Jennine,

You have several custom post types. To name a few, you have press release, news, annual report, and epidemic report based on your screenshot.

There can only be one blog index. You can have several archive pages though. You can have a different layout for the blog index and at the same time, you can also create a different layout for other archive pages. All of this is position with the Layout Builder that if you are using the Pro theme. Perhaps this can help you:

Best Regards.

when you say “only one blog index” does that mean I can only have one page that posts populate to?

Hello @Jennine,

You can create several layouts and/or pages to populate them with posts. For the blog index, there can only be one and that is the page that you have assigned in Settings > Reading > Your homepage displays > Posts Page.

Hope this makes sense.

ok, so can I create an additional blog like page that populates posts from “post” on the dashboard that will also have its own dashboard page? And would I differentiate them by custom post type?

Hello @Jennine,

Please provide us the URL of the pages that you would like to populate with the post and the custom post type. You can use the Looper Provider in displaying the custom post types. You can use the Layout Builder to create a custom layout too especially if the URLs are archive pages.

Regards.

i havent build out the pages yet. they would be new pages that i would want the post to populate on. Then when reached a certain limit, default to the archive page. The links will open to a speradsheet where the data can be sorted. Do you guys offer someone to help with this for a fee? If so what i sthe cost?
Thanks

The posts right now are all in the category of “message archive”. If I create a category named “data” and create new posts that are filed under that category will the posts then populate on separate pages? One page as it is now with the “message archives” and the other page with the “data”?
here is the url as well: https://www.snpnyc.org/message/

HI @Jennine,

Yes, if you create a category and assign the post under that category, the post will automatically populate on the said category page.

It is better that you set up your Layout Builder and give us access to your website so that we can check and help you with your problems.

Hope that helps.

ok great I will do that so I can test the different categories and give you access if I have a problem.
Thank you

You are most welcome, @Jennine.
