Creating a layout with composite/bundle mix and match products

Hi there,

im not sure if what Im asking for is ready yet, but my woo commerce shop have quite a few bundles and composite in it, since the essence of my business is to repackage everything and prolong the re-use of products in different ways. It doesnt seem like i can make a layout which contains quantity fields for the products (to be picked by the customer). I can of course assign any old layout to a composite product but it then prevents any of the composite functionality. I feel like Im missing fundamental understanding. Can you help? Thanks

Hello, @louisaleontiades,

Thanks for writing to us.

I am sorry but I am not sure what are you trying to achieve, I would request you please provide more details or if you could share a reference site URL or video so that we can advise you properly. In case you have not seen our doc of layout builder, please have a look at it.

Hope it helps
Thanks

Hi! I guess it was late and I didnt explain myself very well. In woo there are simple products (which easily use the single template) grouped, variable etc. I am using 3 woo commerce plugins almost exclusively, to create composite (build your own), bundled (sell lots of individual things on the same page - like grouped but better) and mix and match (similar). I cant seem to figure out the layout with these products. The layout builder at present prevents the necessary functionality of my composite products so thet customers cannot pick and choose; added to which the composite products are long, and need a little more clever ideas to save space etc. Do you a) have any templates suitable to these already made or b) have some guidelines on using the layout builder for composite products? Thanks

Hello @louisaleontiades,

Thanks for the explanation. For simple products, you can use the “Add to Cart Button” WooCommerce dynamic element. For Variation and other product types, you should be using the “Add To Cart Form” WooCommerce dynamic element instead.

The “Add to Cart Form” is mostly used in WC Single layout. If you are trying to have an add to cart button in WC Archive layout, your option will be like this:
1.) Insert the “Add To Cart Button” element and add a condition that this element will only display if the product is a simple product.
2.) Then you insert a button element that will be linked to the product page and this time, this button will have again a condition that this will display if the product is NOT a simple product.

If you are not familiar with the element conditions yet, please check out this documentation first:

Hope this helps.

Thanks for your reply. That goes a little way to solving my problem thanks. However, where do i have the options of including the descriptions of every product ? The composite product for example, is made up of specific components and each of them needs the same level of detail and image as a simple product. one component could be out of stock, but the rest in stock…etc!

Also, could you tell me what is the difference between a) price b) regular price c) sale price d) price html (all of these being info you can pull into the layout editor depending on your conditions). In what circumstances would I use price and price html? thanks!

Oh, and also! The template seems to be sourcing the wrong information - i have marked the product on backorder but instead the template thinks its on sale. Equally, the product images for variations seems to only allow one image, and use the ‘product gallery’ to source it, which means I cant use the general product gallery for the ‘parent’ product? I’m just learning how to pull the correct info through, but its confuding (for me!) and very time consuming…!

Hello @louisaleontiades,

Thanks for writing in!

1.) Displaying the description only works best if you are editing the WC Single layout. It may not be a good idea to display the description in our WC Archive. If ever you really want it to display, you will have to use the Product Short Description WooCommerce dynamic element.

2.) The difference between the prices are the following:

  • Price - displays the price of the item
  • Regular Price - displays the regular price you have set for the product
  • Sale Price - displays the sale price of the product
  • Price HTML - returns the price in html format

3.) You should add a condition to your Text element that displays that the product is on backorder. I have here some example:

Tip: When you create a WC Single and select “Use Template”, you can select product 1 or Product 2 template as your basis for your own WC Single layout.

Best Regards.

Hi again, thanks for your patience. I really appreciate that you reply in a short time frame!

I feel though we are not speaking the same language (probably because of my lack of understanding!). Ive read through the documentation and there is very little which refers to bundles, composite or mix and match products. For example, I have a product which is a set of cups, and users get to choose 6 out of 30 cups. Some of them are priced differently so the price needs to be a range not a single value. And obviously I need the layout to include the pictures of the 30 cups so that the users can pick them. (And I havent even started on the descriptions or other info!). Please can you help me understand how I can achieve this?

Hi @louisaleontiades,

I have read your last comment thoroughly and understand that you might want to show the 30 cups for a bundled/grouped product to the users among those who need to select a minimum 6 cups. If that is the case, the WC Single layout does not show the grouped product right now, and you need to use the WooCommerce default template for that. If you want to restrict the users to select a minimum of 6 cups, you need to do the customization. I would suggest you hire a developer who can assist you to do the customization or you can contact our Elite team they might help you with this.

I will also add a feature request for showing the grouped and other available types of product in the layout to our development team, so it might be taken into account in the future.

Thanks

HI there, ok now I understand that layouts for composite products etc is on the roadmap, and thats great! the customization you mention, I have already done for these products (the plugins are fairly intuitive and guide you through the process). I look forward to the new layouts.

Hey @louisaleontiades,

Great! If you have any other concerns or clarifications regarding our theme features, feel free to open up a new thread.

Thank you.
