I have X installed on my site, as well as Cornerstone, set up by a developer previously. I want to be able to update Cornerstone, so I purchased the plugin and have the license added to my account here. However, when I go to Cornerstone > Home and put in the license key, it takes me to a completely blank white page and doesn’t validate.
Hello Sandra,
Thanks for writing in! Have you already assigned the Cornerstone license code to your website URL? To learn more about Cornerstone validation, please check this out:

Hi Sandra,
The cause of this issue is the customization made to the child and parent theme which was X, and now changed to different name. And this cause conflicts with cornerstone.
You could try validating it by activating another theme, then validate your cornerstone.
But for the fix about the conflict, I can’t recommend anything as I’m not sure the extent of customization made with the theme. And we don’t provide support for customization and maintenance here in the forum.
Thanks!
Thanks for the reply. I did switch the theme and this allowed me to validate Cornerstone. However, it shows that there is a plugin update for Cornerstone, but no way to update it. My understanding was that once the license was purchased and validated that we could run a plugin update on Cornerstone.
Hi Sandra,
I’m sorry that you’re having that updating issue, the automatic update might not work with your current version of Cornerstone because it’s bit outdated. In this case, you need to do the manual update, but worry not, you can easily update the Cornerstone by deactivating and deleting your current version. And then reinstalling it like a new plugin (see the following documentation).
You can download a fresh and updated copy of Cornerstone on your CodeCanyon Account Download dashboard. Or here on your forum account dashboard.
To give more context on what happened to your X theme, is it was heavily modified to the extent that Cornerstone was not able to identify that the site is using X theme and on top of that the modification had done without following the Wordpress standard best practices.
Do you have an X license before? Because if you do, I would recommend re-uploading a fresh copy of X theme than redesigning the site with a default Twenty Nineteen theme.
Let us know how it goes,
Cheers!
