Updating from 4.0.1 to 7.2.3

I have an old website and i have to update it.
Website was WP 4.7 , php 5.4, Xtheme 4.0.1

I have done:

• Update PHP to 5.6
• Update WP to 5.4
• Create a new folder in themes where i placed Xtheme 7.2.3
• Delete cornerstone plugin
• Activate Xtheme 7.2.3
• Validate it
• Install Cornerstone from dashboard.

Automatically x-shortcodes plugin was deactivated. I read that shortcodes should work because are integrated in cornerstone but now shortcodes are shown at the frontpage type [gap size=“80px”] , [visibility type=“visible-desktop”] …etc.
I have to return to X-theme 4.0.1 for no to show them.

Can you help me?

Hello Pau,

Since you are updating from a really old version of X, it would be best to duplicate your site and make it your staging site and do the updates from there so your live site will not get disrupted during the update and you can also do all the checking and testing in the staging site.

It would be best to setup a staging site and do the update from there so that the live site will not be affected in case there will be any issues with the update and you will be able to do some testing.

In case you are not certain how to proceed, you might want to check with your web host and ask them if they can help you with the staging site.

As for the issue you were getting, please make sure that Cornerstone is not just installed but also enabled on the site since the shortcodes will display are mere shortcodes when Cornerstone is not active.

Well I installed cornerstone and seems to be enable, but not validated. When i click on validate nothing happens, but the theme is validated.

Hi Pau,

If I understand correctly, you’re using X theme and standalone Cornerstone? In that case, please uninstall Cornerstone and X will install it automatically with out needing to validate by visiting X > Validation page (see https://theme.co/docs/product-validation).

If Cornerstone is not installed automatically then you’ll see a notice in the top:

You’re almost ready to start using X. Please click here to install and activate the required Cornerstone plugin.

Simply click on the link to re-install Cornerstone.

If the issue persists then try revoking (see https://theme.co/docs/product-validation#revoking-the-license-key) the X validation and then re-validating X on your site, which should validate Cornerstone automatically. Before doing that make sure you’ve the latest version of X (see https://theme.co/docs/how-to-update and https://theme.co/docs/installation-and-validation) and it’d be best if uninstall and remove Cornerstone plugin before performing this step.

If nothing works then please get back to us with the result of the steps above and URL/User/Pass of your WordPress dashboard using the Secure Note functionality of the post to follow up the case.

Hi Pau,

I have checked your site and you have successfully updated Cornerstone to the latest version but left X in version 4.0.1.

This version has a different validation process that is not supported anymore.

Kindly make sure to login through FTP then go to wp-content/themes then download the current x directory that is in there as a backup. Then delete it and upload an unzip latest version of X.

Once you’ve done that, you can go back to the admin and validate the license there.

The version 4.0.1 is active because of the problem of the shrotcodes. You can see at themes section that there is another 2 versions of the theme installed. The problem is when version 7 is activated.

Anyway I delete all theme folders and leave only 1 theme forlder named “x” with last version and seems now is working.
