Translate footer using WPML

Hi,

On a website with WPML enabled I see the footer on the default language, but not on pages in one of the translated pages. Is there something that needs to be configured to show the default footer (with translated content) on translated pages?

Hi @dhunink,

Thanks for reaching out.

Please check whether the Footer post type is enabled under WPML > Settings > Post Types Translation , similar to how the Component post type is enabled in the thread below:

If the Footer post type is already enabled, you should be able to translate it into the available languages.

Thanks!

Hi @tristup,

I’ve checked these settings, and their both already set to the correct radio button option.

Hi @ruenel,

could you keep this topic open for, say, two weeks longer? I have WPML support looking into another issue on my staging environment as we speek, but they seem to need a bit more time for that. I don’t think it’s going to be a good idea if you are using that same staging env at the same time, as it might get confusing.
If you’re okay to deploy a copy, I could make one. Otherwise I’m okay with waiting till WPML finishes, and we can pick up from there.

Hello @dhunink,

Unfortunately, threads automatically close after 10 days without any updates, and we can’t change that behavior. If it closes, you can either share your feedback here or open a new thread and reference this one so we can continue where we left off.

Thanks

Hi @prakash_s,

something to add to the list of feature-requests for the Forum I guess

I do have one thing to share at this time, although WPML escalated the issue to their 2nd level support.
They initially suggested using the language-flags present in the Pro-Builder.

Could you please confirm my response as posted below, or comment on mistakes on my end?

If only a layout is made in the default language, that design is used for displaying other languages. So all languages share the same design, and only the content is translated (through WPML).
As soon as you hit these language-switchers, a different layout is created to that language. That’s initially a copy of the design of the original language. Indeed, translated texts can be entered (within the builder, so not using WPML).
But any updates on the existing layout for the original language is not copied to the different layout created for other languages.
So basically: we need to create a layout in only the original language and translate all content using WPML.

Hi @dhunink,

Yes, you are correct — the translated content needs to be added manually to each layout created for different languages. Please note that any changes made to one layout will not automatically apply to the layouts created for other languages.

I would also recommend going through the following documentation, which explains in detail how WPML works with our products:

Thanks

Hi @tristup,

To be honest I don’t think the docs cover things in detail, but just the main process of installing and translating a single post or page. Things are getting quite complicated once you add Single Layouts, archive templates, V1 and V2 elements and all the other amazing stuff Pro can do.
It might be worth addressing issues like that as well in the docs.

WPML-support is still stuck on my issue, but as long as this topic remains open, I will share relevant updates!

Hi @dhunink,

We appreciate the feedback. Do share the updates with us.

Thanks!
