Translate components texts with WPML

Hello,

Here you say that now we can translate components using WPML, and for that we need to activate “Post types translation” for “Components (cs_global_block)”:

I did it, and then I go to WPML > Translations, and yes, there is a translation for my page of components type:“Cornerstone Component”. But when I clic to translate it, the only thing that the WPML translator editor shows to translate is the “Title” of the components page.

How to translate the components texts? (My components are rows/blocks with info that I use in different pages)

Thank you

Best Regards.

here you are, thank you

Hey @llribas,

I have logged in and I do not find any Components in your site at the moment.

  • See the screenshot

Best Regards.

I don’t understand why the Components page “Kit de componentes” does not show to you (see my screenshot).
Your user is role=Administrator, so it’s supposed acces to everything.
Can you check again?
Thank you

Hey there,

My colleague might have been looking at the Catalan language where you don’t have a translated component yet. Open your Spanish Component and click on the translation flag to create a translation.

To learn more about WPML Cornerstone Translation, please check this page https://theme.co/docs/wpml

Hello,
Yes, I know, because I think it can be translated using WPML inteface, as I mention in my first comment in this thread.
Is it possible?

Thank you

Hey there,

It is possible. However, you will need to manually update your component shortcode to the other language in translated pages because the translated component will not automatically switch.

Hello,

Do you mean that the translated component shortcode will be different than the original language component?
And then update this shortcode editing the page with guttenberg? (to find the shortcode from the component and replace it)

In my first comment I mentioned an answer from your support, where you tell that “now you can translate components with wpml”
Do you plan to improve all this part?

Thank you

Hello @llribas,

Yes, the component shortcode of the Catalan component will be different from the Spanish component shortcode. You will then have to. use this Catalan component shortcode in the pages with the Catalan translation as well. This applies if you have used the component shortcodes in some of your pages with Gutenberg. And if you used the Spanish Components in your layout or pages built using the Cornerstone builder, you may also translate the layout and/or pages with the builder as well.

Open the Spanish Component in the builder:

Clicking the Catalan flag, the builder will prompt asking you to translate the component:

You can duplicate the Spanish Component or start from scratch.

Hope this makes sense.

Ok, I understand the 2 options you explain.

BUT I was hopping to translate the textual parts of the components throught WPML, as we can translate Cornerstone pages with WPML.
This is what actually makes sense, so if we make design changes in components, or add new ones, we don’t need to do it as many times as languages.

I thought that this was improved in this way in lastest verions.

Thank you

Hey @llribas,

That is actually ideal. However, there is currently no way to achieve that.

Please stay tuned for future updates.

Thanks.

Ok thank you.
I will be waiting, I love Cornerstone, and I use it for almost every project, but when I need to do multilingual websites this kind of things are a problem.

thank you

Hello @llribas,

Thank you for your patience and kind words. We’re glad to hear it’s your go-to tool for most of your projects. We understand the challenges of multilingual websites, and we’re committed to helping you overcome them. Please stay tuned for future updates.

Thanks for understanding

Hello again,

When I try to translate the components page in Cornerstone (clicking on the catalan flag, and then I select to start with the spanish translation), it creates a new components page adding “(Catalan)” at the end of it’s name, BUT it creates it as a Spanish content (the spanish flag keeps illuminated, not the catalan one).
So, if I translate the texts and then Save, it saves it as a spanish language, not catalan.

Hey @llribas,

Can you share a video of what’s happening so to give us the complete picture?

Thanks.
