Save page as a preset file

Hi there,

Is there an option since I made some changes on my staging site (home page)

That I can save the home page as a preset file and I download that preset and insert it into my live site (home page)?

But before inserting it to the live site I put the website on maintenance mode?

Hopefully, you understand what I mean…

Since the whole situation like doing changes to staging and pushing it into the live site is very complex + I don’t know how to export & import account users and orders…

Hi Katarina,

Thank you for reaching out to us. Yes you can save any page as a template, here are steps to save your page content as a template https://theme.co/docs/template-manager#how-to-save-the-templates

To use the saved templates please follow https://theme.co/docs/template-manager#how-to-use-the-templates

No you don’t need to activate the maintenance mode while importing the templates as this is only a few seconds task.

Hope this helps!

Hi Nabeel,

I know that there’s an option to save the page as a template, but how can I save that as a file? So I can import the file from the STAGING site to my LIVE site?

Hopefully, you understand what I mean

Hi Katarina,

You can download the template from your staging area then upload it to your live website. Please follow the instructions below.

1.) Go to the template manager in your staging area
2.) Select the template you want to download then you can see the download button at the bottom part.

3.) Then your files should be .tco files
4.) Then go to your live website template manager and upload the .tco files

5.) Once you uploaded the files, you can now use the template in any of your pages.

Hope that helps.

Thank you.

Hi @marc_a,

Thanks for your reply,

Is that a better solution to do than making changes from the staging site (finalizing) everything and then push everything - (changes) to the live site? If you understand what I mean…

This way is much easier since if I do the method from staging pushing to live I can’t export new orders & users that I got recently on the live site, but I have to use some sort of plugins like WP EXPORT & IMPORT. So I can import the latest orders to the staging site… which is too much work & pain to do

My plan is to do for example:
Staging site for design - to make new changes and test out the design (to see how it will look) and save that as a template - (export the file)

After that, I would put my live site on maintenance mode and Import the template file (design changes I did) and clear the Kinsta & WP Rocket cache so It updates to the latest look

And then disable the maintenance mode on the live site

Could I do that method, and would it not break something function-wise or my website?
It would be much easier for me to do it like that instead of making changes on staging and push it to the live site

Hopefully, you understand what I mean…

Please let me know if that’s possible and if that will work!

Best regards,

Hi Katarina,

Yes, this is much better way on how you can sync your data from your staging to your live website and it will save you much time vs how you do it right now by syncing WooCommerce data using 3rd party plugins.

Hope that helps.

Thank you.

Hey Marc,

Sorry for bothering you… but could you maybe record your screen and show me how I should do it (the export & import page thing)?

  1. Backup LIVE & STAGING site at current state (Latest)
  2. Set LIVE site to maintenance mode
  3. Then hop into the STAGING site and export page (for example home page)
  4. Then go to LIVE site and then import the file to the home page of LIVE site… is that correct?
  5. After I Import the new design/changes, I clear WP Rocket & Kinsta Cache… right?

Please let me know if that is the correct way to do it! I am really scared not to mess up anything…

Kind regards,
Katarina

Hi Katarina,

Yes, all the steps you have mentioned are correct. You don’t have to worry because you have a backup in both staging and live website.

Hope that helps.

Thank you.

Hi @marc_a

Thanks for letting me know! Just 1 more question… sorry

When I export the file for example header…

Does the CSS / Javascript & other stuff export too or I have to manually do that?

Also, how does this go with new Images that are not in Live site? How will they load… I do that manually?

Please let me know!

Kind regards

Hello Katarina,

The CSS/JSS added will not be imported. Only the custom CSS that was added as inline element CSS on the element can be imported. The image on the other will be imported to the site.

You may need to copy the CSS/JS manually.

Hope this helps.
