Pro and WPML : solution proposals

Hi,

This is a proposal (question) to Themeco to help customers facing the incompatibility of the PRO theme and WPML.

Customers (like myself) have bought the PRO theme a time ago because it (according to Themeco) was “compatible with WPML”. I also purchased WPML.

But at the moment, theme PRO is not usable with WPML!
I’ve considered all posts both at the APEX forum and at WPML.

I read that Themeco is working on a lot.
For the time being, there is no real workaround and no ETA is provided.

Customers have deadlines, in some cases this problem has financial implications (when events or products are launched). We are even legally obliged to use the 2 official languages of our country in all our public communications (Dutch and French).
So it is important that there is absolutely a satisfactory (intermediate) solution before a complete, final solution is found.

For myself, I have to make a decision: either I continue with the Pro theme, or I move to another theme that is 100% compatible with WPML.

Because I am convinced that the quality and possibilities of the PRO theme are intrinsically good and without the compatibility issue being absolute top and experienced support of the themeco-team as high-level, I prefer to stay with the PRO theme.

Everything depends on the alternative solution Themeco can or wants to propose.
Here you might think of a temporary downgrade to the X theme, and temporary use of Cornerstone (standalone) with another theme, …

Other suggestions may be possible …

Kind regards.

By the way: “To be able to translate the contents section of the cornerstone please kindly go to the wpml languages settings and change the mode to the subdirectory (/en/) and not the parameter mode (?lang=en” didn’t work for me…

Hello,

Thanks for writing!

Please, can you explain your question with more details? Thanks for using Pro and our team will help you with your problem.

Hi John,

thanks for the reply.!

I have a strict deadline: end of this month I have to presentate the new website to my board if directors and the website has to be completely bilangual (Dutch / French).

I presume that I can translate the content with WPML & that each page is linked properly (dutch / french).

But 3 problems:

  1. Cannot get the franch page in Cornerstone (have to change some images, forms, etc. according to the language)
  2. The menu is unilingual
  3. The little footermenu is complete messed up in french…

So within a couple of weeks I have to solve this problems…

Kind Regards,

Luc

Hello,

Thank you for the feedback.

I will provide to you some articles about the WPML documentation to help you:

  1. You can see here that the X theme was tested by the WPML team: https://wpml.org/pt-br/theme/x/

  2. You can check the documentation here: https://wpml.org/documentation/theme-compatibility/xtheme/

Hello John,

I’ve read that.

But the point is that I bought the “PRO” theme and I want to finish the construction of the website…

And I’m stuck cause of the problems between Pro and WPML…

I’m looking for a solution to finish the website as much as possible…

Is installing the x theme instead of PRO an alternative???

(July 21) Status report on WPML issues with Pro:
"…
The Content Builder is working correctly when WPML language negotiation is ‘language_in_directory’.
However, issues appear when ‘language_as_parameter’ or ‘language_per_domain’ is used."

Not with my site…
Can you check this??

Hi, Luc!
Many people waiting for compatibility between PRO and WPML… me too!

Hi there @Luc_Van_Cappellen,

You had to set the setting in the Languages menu of WPML and also save it. Then you need to go to Permalinks and set it to be the post name.

I went to your website and did those changes. Now would you please kindly change the admin language to French and then go to Cornerstone?

That should do the trick for the content.

Unfortunately for the footer, there is no workaround at the moment.

Thank you for your understanding.

Hi @cyrock,

Completely understand your concern and it is also our highest priority. To make this work we also need WPML side cooperation either which we are in close contact.

Just rest assured that we are doing our best to release a compatible version as soon as possible.

Thank you for your understanding.

Hi Christopher,

thank you for the info!

It seems it don’t.
.
When I change the admin language to French and launch ‘PRO’ I get an overview of dutch pages and when I choose one (example: “Algemene Vergadering”) I got the dutch page (when I returned to the dashbaord, the admin language was French…)

When I try via “pages” and choose a page edit with Pro: I got an empty page.

Did you change something in the language menu? It seems to me that all was the same as before?

Regards,

Luc

Hi there,

We don’t change any settings unless required for troubleshooting, especially with language menu that has no relation with builder permalinks.

Though, with that conflict, it behaves differently on each install. So please stay tuned with the fix and our developers are working on it

Thanks for understanding.

I am also looking for that solution ASAP. After my discourse on resizing to mobile compatibility earlier this month this seems to be a second issue with Pro. Time to redo the website with a completely new theme and get rid of Pro? This is so basic…

Hi @Zilchbiz,

We totally understand the situation and this is also the highest priority for us. As we already informed in our news section. We are fully focused on this and in contact with WPML developers.

Thank you for your understanding and patience.

I have the exact same issue and it’s taking me down, our board is very upset that we still don’t have the website in the other languages needed. The board don’t recognize tech issues and they don’t care about Theme or plugins, they just want things to work!

I’m so upset that ThemeCo (before releasing PRO) said that it’s 100% compatible with WPML and did it for marketing purposes. :frowning:

I’m now stuck and started looking for different themes. I have 45+ pages and it’s gonna be a nightmare to move, unless ThemeCo magically releases a new update soon and get WPML working.

Sad!

Hi there,

Sorry to hear that, permalinks conflicts are unavoidable since both ends use custom one, and languages are permalinks dependent. Our developers are still working on it.

Thanks!

okay guys and gals,
Can you update us on any solution window for this? We’ve all seen the Agust 7th update, which basically told us you and WPML have been arguing for two weeks on whose issue it actually was. Now that has been determined and we’re one week further down the road nothing else seems to have happened. We, out here, have our businesses to run on multi-lingual sites et al. Would be nice to hear something more. Thanks

Sorry but we have no news yet. Please stay tuned.

Any definite date of bug fix to make WPML works with PRO? we’re losing, sad!

Hi there,

There is no update about it yet, but our developers are working around the clock

Thanks!
