Porfolio page

Hi,

Why the porfolio items aren’t showing up on the achieve page. https://wordpressmu-1430342-5375343.cloudwaysapps.com/portfolio/

Also, was trying to create an archive page for the porfolio page but wasn’t able to do that. Can you use one of the archive layouts the number 01, this one.

I’ve provided the credentials here in the secure note.

Thanks

Hello @abdurrehman,

Thank you for the inquiry.

We applied the Blog 1 template to the Portfolio Archive archive layout. There was no portfolio category when we checked, so we created a dummy category for testing. If you want to use the Layout Portfolio template for the Portfolio page, you will need to use the classic editor. We edited the portfolio page and switched to the classic editor.

Let us know if you need additional info.

Best regards.

Sorry, but you overlooked it. I wanted to apply it on the portfolio archive page. Also, can you let me know why the posts weren’t showing up on the archive page without the template?

Did you check the link in the secure note? It’s one of the portfolio category or archive pages. Where would you like to apply it? Please provide a direct link to the archive page.

As mentioned above, you need to use the classic editor before using the Layout Portfolio template. This will not work if Cornerstone is used for the page.

https://theme.co/docs/setup-portfolios#how-to-setup-portfolio-page-template

I did check that and that’s a category of the portfolio posts but if you take a look at 1st reply in the ticket I wanted it on that page.

Hello @abdurrehman,

You may need to go to Pages and delete the Portfolio page so that the archive layout you have created will be used by the portfolio archive.

Kindly let us know how it goes.

This wasn’t what I was expecting the support to be and going around circles. I provided the credentials. Could you test that on the test site? I tried and couldn’t create the archive page layout using the builder for the portfolio archive page.

Hello There,

Please be advised that we have instructed your to delete the Portfolio page so that your custom Portfolio archive layout will take. Anyways, I went ahead and deleted the page already. You can check your new Portfolio layout here now:

Thank You.

Hi,

I see that you’ve deleted the archive page but I wanted to create the layout for that page using the CS. Currently, I see that the assignment is this.

I don’t understand this how come this is for the archive page even though the page itself is deleted? Also, when you paginate to the next page it just shows the default layout, not this one.

This is getting complicated and don’t understand how really this works. In simple words, can you explain and create it for me? I want to create a layout for the portfolio achieve page using the CS. Can this be created using the archive layouts? If so then I don’t see the portfolio page option there in conditions. Or it need to be created using a single layout? If so then how? Please take your time and let me know in detail because I don’t seem to find out this info from the docs either.

Thanks

Sorry for the confusion. We updated the Conditions for the Portfolio Archive layout so it only applies to portfolio category or archive pages. We also created a separate Single Layout called Portfolio Page Layout, applied the same template used in the Portfolio Archive layout, and set its Conditions to display on a specific page named Portfolio. We also added a Looper Provider > Query Builder on the Portfolio page to display all portfolio items instead of the default posts.

https://theme.co/docs/loopers#query-builder

Please check the links in the secure note.

I don’t know why you’re missing the issue. I didn’t request it for the category pages but the portfolio archive page.

What you’ve created, as per my understanding that’s not archive page of the portfolio posts but just a page as hasn’t the portfolio template added to it.

Also it’s missing the pagination.
I would appreicate if you take your time and reply me about what I’ve asked to get some help with because this is just wasting time and going back and forth and the issue is still there.

Sorry for the confusion. If you want to use the default portfolio post type or archive page, you have to delete the Portfolio from the Pages panel. Unfortunately, you cannot apply the same template to the default portfolio post type archive page based on the available conditions.

My issue is still there and not progress has been made and about deleting the pages, I didn’t delete any page I saw that you were editing them and they’re now in trash. I don’t know what you’re doing.

If you’re unable to help with the issue, can you pass it to someone who really can and understand the issue here?

Hey @abdurrehman,

Be advised that the built-in Portfolio custom post type, when enabled in the Theme Options, you will have to create a NORMAL page and then use the Layout - Portfolio page template to display the Portfolio archive page. If no page is assigned with the Layout - Portfolio page template, the portfolio custom post type archive page will just use the default blog archive layout.

Since you want to create a custom Portfolio archive layout, you have to go to the Layout Builder builder and create the archive layout. A condition must be set like the “Post Type is Portfolio Item” to assign this newly created layout as the Portfolio index page. Now, to avoid any conflict, any NORMAL page that is using the Layout - Portfolio page template MUST be deleted.

If you are wondering if nothing is displayed in your archive layout, you can set the preview by assigning the post type as well just as shown here:

There might be a confusion on your end as to why there is a need to go to Pages > Add New and create the Portfolio page. As you know, the X theme has no Layout Builder and this is where the Layout - Portfolio page template comes in. This is the way to display or create the Portfolio index using the default theme styling. Now, with Pro theme since the Layout Builder is at your disposal, creating a Normal page with the Layout - Portfolio page template is no longer needed. This is the reason why I have mentioned that the page SHOULD be deleted.

If you have still other questions, maybe you can clarify what you want to do with the Portfolio custom post type, how you are going to use it and what information you want to display on it so we can also give a recommendation.

By the way, when you are still building the site, it is highly recommended that you turn OFF any caching and optimizing plugins like Breeze so that you can easily see the site or page changes and not the cache version of the page.

Please check out the portfolio demo now:

Best Regards.

Hi,

Thanks we’re making some progress finally.

Sorry about the cache plugins. I just turned them off and disabled it on the server as well.

I can see that now now loading on the archive page. I have a question though, how this is loading on the /portfolio slug even the page is deleted. What if wanted to change the slug then? Why is this behavior? Why it doesn’t just simply create it on the archive page instead of deleting that?

Thanks

Hello @abdurrehman,

Upon register a custom post type, you will have to include the default slug and/or the rewrite slug. You can check out this codex:

You have to remember that in Theme Options > Portfolio, you did set the custom URL slug.

This is where your portfolio slug is coming from. If you change the custom URL, the slug of the portfolio archive will also change.

Hope this makes sense.
