On Pro but want to downgrade

I bought the Pro theme last August in error and now I have to renew (at a cost I never really knew I was signing up for).

Anyway, rather than have to renew every year for a couple of hundred dollars, I want to downgrade to the one-time purchase of X.

My question is, will this downgrade affect my site at all? Will content be moved/changed/deleted etc?

Thanks for writing in! I have checked your Themeco accound and I found out that your Pro Single license was purchased last September 2024. Yes, downgrading to the X theme should be possible as ling as the current site is not using any custom header, custom footer or custom layouts because these exclusively available with the Pro theme. As far as I know, my site is not using any of those custom features. So what would the process be? Am I right in thinking that I need to…

  1. Cancel the Pro renewal
  2. Purchase X
  3. Change over the activation code

and the site will be the same?

If you are not using any of the features, you can purchase the X from the Envato marketplace and install it.

Well yes, that does help marginally but am I correct in thinking that there will be no front end difference/effect when I change the theme?

Also, how do I cancel the Pro renewal? I can’t find that in the ‘Billing’ part of my account?

Hello @simonmason123,

Thank you for the update.

If there are no custom modifications made to the theme, switching back to X from Pro should not cause any issues on the site. However, if there are layout changes, you may need to fix them manually.

We recommend creating a full site backup before proceeding, or cloning the live site to a test environment, so you can review any differences after switching back to X.

You can cancel the Pro subscription under Account > Billing > Subscriptions: https://theme.co/account/billing/subscriptions

Well, that didn’t work at all.

  1. I bought X theme for $100+
  2. I installed it
  3. I activated it
  4. It absolutely obliterated the front end of my site
  5. I had to revert back to Pro so that my site is usable

What can I do?
Either how can I get the X theme to work with my current content OR I will have to keep PRO (at the annual subscription cost) and also I’m out of pocket for this new X theme that I’ve just bought.

Can you advise?

Hello Simon,

Please clone your love site to a staging site. Provide us with your WO details so that we can check and advised you what to do to switch back to the X theme.

You can create a secure note in your next reply with the following info:
– Link to your staging site
– WP login URL
– WP username
– WP password
– WP Administrator Role
– Confirmation that we can access and make changes to your site

Hi Simon,

It seems that you have installed the X but not installed the Cornerstone plugin, which comes bundled with Pro. I have checked and installed the Cornerstone and now the site is looking as expected.
