Lazy/Eager loading LCP evergreen issue

Hi team!

I am concerned about this subject:

  1. It’s been years for some of us begging for a BASIC lazy/eager control for images.
You know, above-the-fold, PageSpeed, CWV, WPO, SEO.

Best case is reading that “there will be a development request”, but never gets there. This is a logic and reasonable feature, present in other actors like Avada, Elementor or Enfold. I don’t compare, just saying this is already out there.

Lately reading @johanlundgren who is asking for the same I did on a yearly basis.
Just search the forum for “eager” :point_left:

  1. Your BOOST service, good for sure, but perhaps not really needed if you have the necessary skills for scoring 90-100 on your own. Why not opening an easy win to all of us aware of WPO?

Over 5y now I am super-happy building as much as I can get with PRO/Cornerstone, but there are painful waiting-fors:

Largest Contentful Paint image was lazily loaded

You guys did an astonishing job. But there are noticeable gaps, and I don’t say these are necessarily bugs, rather blanks left there. But about my concern, are these pending blanks due to rapid growth or are they a policy?

Honestly and all due respect, I’d like to know if there is some commercial reason behind this, I would not like at all an extra plugin over subscription covering this.
I believe @charlie and team can deliver this with eyes closed, why not next release? :dizzy:

Again, I love what you do and plan to keep working on it, but objectively this is not a crazy selfish idea

Thank you

Hey Ricard,

Thank you for your feedback.

Though there are no options specific for switching lazy loading yet (possibly due to developments in Cornerstone), achieving your performance goals is possible using the Raw Content element as an alternative to the Image element. The only downside is you need to know how to write HTML and styling with CSS.

For background image, there is the option of using the Custom Type which allows the use of HTML coded background. But again, this needs HTML and CSS knowledge.

I saw the post written by @johanlundgren and though yes, there is no option for lazy loading yet for the image inside the Image element, what he needs is possible using the Raw Content element, Dynamic Content and Element Conditions. I’ve replied in his thread if you want to see the details.

Hope that helps and stay tuned for Cornerstone updates.

I will try this option, while crossing fingers for this development considered.
Thanks for the update, @christian

You’re welcome, Ricard.
