Issues with Pro 5.0.1 & The Event Calendar

Hey guys -

Love what you’ve done with the updates to Pro! I think it’s a game changer and appreciate you guys continuing to move the needle.

Unfortunately, however, I’ve ran into an issue with Pro and the Events Calendar / The Events Calendar Pro following the update to 5.0.0 and 5.0.1.

You can see how the calendar is supposed to display at https://strongeraustin.org/activities/. Then, compare that to our staging environment at https://newsastaging.wpengine.com/activities/.

I have tried uninstalling some of the other plugins we’re using, as well as deactivating some of the Event Calendar Pro add-ons in place, but the issue persists.

Unfortunately, we’re very much handcuffed to the Event Calendar Pro plugin, and I’m hoping we’ll eventually be able to take advantage of Pros latest responsive and UI features.

Any thoughts on what might be going on?

Quick update on this one:

I was just able to fix the default calendar page by changing the default calendar view settings from “Blank No Container | Header Footer” to “Default Calendar View.” This fixes the original issue reported.

Unfortunately, however, I have noticed that using the Event Calendar Pro shortcode on it’s own no longer works as expected. You can see this at https://newsastaging.wpengine.com/fitness-sechedule/ and compare it to https://strongeraustin.org/fitness-sechedule/

Any thoughts as to what’s going on there?

Thanks for the very detailed post information. Have you cleared the plugin caches already? It seems that the issue could be just caching because when we check the activities page in your staging, it is only missing the headings.

As for the fitness schedule page, the calendar is totally broken. Would you mind providing us access to your staging site? You can create a secure note in your next reply with the following info:
– Link to your staging site
– WP staging login URL
– WP staging username
– WP staging password
– WP Administrator Role
- Confirmation that we can access and make changes to your site

Hey Ruenel -

As briefly noted, I was able to fix the first issue by changing the default view settings for the Event Calendar. The headline on that page isn’s showing up because I removed some HTML temporarily, but it’s no big deal and I am not worried about that.

With regards to the second item, I’ll get you guys admin access to the staging site in just a few, and I appreciate the support!

Hi @j0hnwat3rman,

I found that out it is one of your plugins is causing the issue on your website because when I tried to disable all the plugins except for The Event Calendar and The Events Calendar PRO, your 2021 Fitness Schedule staging page is working fine as expected. I suggest that you disable all the plugins again except The Event Calendar and The Events Calendar PROthen activate the plugins one by one to find the culprit.

Interestingly, Yoast seems to be the problem, however, it was not a problem with the previous version of Pro, which is what we’re running on the live website. As you can see, with the previous version of Pro and with Yoast installed, there were no issues with the shortcode https://strongeraustin.org/fitness-sechedule/.

What within the latest updates to Pro would be causing issues with the Event Calendar Pro shortcode we’re using?

Also, I took a look at the php error logs on the server and I’m seeing the following:

The post in question (id = 1929) is the page where we’re having problems with the shortcode.

I have checked your staging server and found the issue in the given URL. I went ahead and deactivated the said plugin and found the page is working. A few hours ago we have released another version of the theme with some fixes, I would recommend you to update your theme to the latest one and check if that resolves your issue.

If that does not help, you need to contact the plugin author on this specific issue and let us know the feedback from them.

Please remember that we don’t offer any issues related to 3rd party plugins.

Thanks for taking a look, and, yes, we’ve already established that there’s a conflict between Yoast and the updated theme impacting that specific page.

I have just updated the theme to the latest version. Unfortunately, the issue persists.

I also understand that you guys don’t offer 3rd party plugin support, however, given that Yoast and the Event Calendar plugins are massively popular and widely used, I suspect that I will not be the only person having issues. We were also not having this issue prior to the Pro 5+ updates, and the PHP error referenced seems to be related to the theme, not Yoast.

While there is a conflict, what you can do which I tested to be working is creating a layout for the specific page. I’ve created an example on your site (see URL in the secure note).

The setup is as follows.

Create a Single Layout. if you’re not aware of the Layout Builder feature, please learn from the video tutorial here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Vkwk9YCexL4&t=27s
Add The Content element in Section > Row > Column.
Add other elements on the Layout
Assign the Layout to the Specific Page. If you’re not aware of this feature, check out our Assignment and Conditions article here https://theme.co/docs/conditions-and-assignments
