Google Analytics analytics.js to gtag.js

Google is telling our client to upgrade their Analyics to use gtag.js.
“By updating your current Google Analytics tag (analytics.js) to the latest tag (gtag.js), you will benefit from:”

Within the forum thread above is says the opposite:
July ’19: “The plugin is still using gtag.js file and not been completely upgraded to use the analytics.js file.”

Another thread says to use “Site Kit” from Google instead:

" Thanks for writing in! Regretfully the bundled Google Analytics plugin hasn’t been updated to work with the latest offering of Google Analytics. We are still updating it. Meanwhile, you may use the official Google’s WordPress plugin called Site Kit."

I just need to know what I can tell our client - either Pro’s Google Analytics is fine as is, or it’s not as is and we need to use Site Kit instead. Also is gtag.js is either the new way or the old way of doing things.

Hi @disadmin,

As my colleague says in his comment, that the Google Analytics bundled plugin hasn’t been updated to work with the latest offering of Google Analytics. We are still working on the update, till then, you can use Google’s official WordPress plugin named Site Kit.

Thanks for understanding
