Child theme can't find parent theme

Hi, I created a temporary SiteGround site. I have installed the most recent version of pro: 6.1.3. today downloaded off the dashboard.

I then tried to install the child theme which I downloaded from: https://theme.co/docs/child-themes and I received this message.

Installing theme from uploaded file: pro-child.zip

Unpacking the package…

Installing the theme…

This theme requires a parent theme. Checking if it is installed…

The parent theme could not be found. You will need to install the parent theme, pro , before you can use this child theme.

Theme installed successfully.

[Go to Themes page]

I suspect this is similar to the issue experienced by the below person

X-Theme Child Not working

I keep getting an error saying that the parent theme is missing. Please install x parent theme. I have both Parent and Child theme installed.

But deleting the child theme and re-downloading the file and uploading it didn’t solve the issue, and I have double checked that the Pro version is the one off my Themeco dashboard.

Thanks for reaching out.
I would suggest you reinstall the Parent theme after deleting the Child Theme and check if that resolves your problem or not. If not, please provide login credentials for your site in a secure note to examine it further, including:

– WordPress Site URL & Login URL
– WordPress Admin username/password

To create a secure note, click the key icon underneath any of your posts.

Hey Jane,

Your child theme is now activated on your website. Here are the things I have done:

• Activate another theme to delete the current Pro
• I found out that we cannot directly delete Pro in the themes dashboard even though I already activated another theme. That being said, I installed a plugin called File Manager and delete the Pro folder in this directory wp-content/theme
• I download a fresh copy of Pro from my dashboard
• Install it on your website and it went successfully, the child is now activated.

Thanks so much Marc! Any suggestions as to why replacing Pro with a fresh copy worked for you, but not for me? Even though I downloaded it off my dashboard yesterday? Appreciate your help!

Hey Jane,

I suspect that the files we’re not deleted successfully when you delete the old Pro in your website. I also experience it when I tried to deleted the Pro theme in the theme page, it doesn’t deleted successfully. That being said, I need to manually delete the Pro theme folder in the wp-content/themes directory but I am glad that your issue is now fixed on your website.
