Categories index page

Apologies for asking a question that, I’m sure, has been answered many times. However I’ve looked through the Forum and watched the videos and have come up short.

I have a number of posts, each of which has been assigned a particular category. I want to have a ‘category index page’ that lists by category only (i.e. not showing any posts). The anchor needs to be an image.

When clicking on a category image, it would take the visitor to the appropriate category index page, which would feature a list of all posts tagged with that particular category taxonomy.

I’ve created a blank page and added a dynamic “Posts” element into a column. I’ve tried every permutation of the Looper Provider settings (“Recent Posts”, “Query Builder”, etc.) but without any luck.

I also tried setting the Dynamic Post element “Condition Group” field to “Post (has taxonomy)->Categories” but that didn’t work either.

I’m guessing I need to create two templates - one for the “all categories” page, and another for each individual category, right?

Could you please point me in the right direction? Many thanks in advance.

Hello @KEXINO,

Thanks for writing to us.

In order to achieve this I would suggest you please follow these steps.

1 . Create an archive layout through the Layout builder
2 . Use the Terms element to list all the categories.

3 . Use the Post element to list the posts.

4 . Go to the Post element and set the Looper Provider as OFF, since on the archive page the default WordPress loop is working

5 . Now you need to assign the layout, go to the Layout Settings —>Condition—>Set it like this “Post Taxonomy” is “Category”

Thanks

Sorry for the delay in replying. For some reason I didn’t get an email notification that you guys had replied.

Anyway, I’ve tried what you’ve recommended, but as soon as I set layout assignment Cornerstone hangs. After a few minutes I get the “iframe response is incomplete” error message.

I’ve disabled all plugins and cleared cache, but the issue is still there. Any ideas what could be happening?

Hello @KEXINO,

You can do this alternate solution:
1.) Go to Pages > Add New to create a new page. Name it “My Category Index”, for example.

2.) Edit the page in Cornerstone and insert the Terms element. Each of those terms should be linked to each respective category archive page.

Best Regards.
