X Theme v8 Major Issues

Hi,

We have just updated the X Theme to its latest version (8), and literally destroyed our site. The problems listed:

  1. The menu doesn’t work, at all.

  2. The blog doesn’t work, it gets stuck in loading (https://nox1.gr/2020backup/news)

  3. The first content band on the homepage doesn’t work, it used to have a video.

  4. The content bands that used to have columns with fade animation don’t work.

  5. Plus some other minors issues such as font weights etc.

Thankfully, all these happened on the site that we run as a test, or staging site if you prefer, https://nox1.gr/2020backup

The original site which still has version 7 of X Theme is https://www.streetmode.gr

Hello @Nox1

Thanks for writing to us.

It might be the issue of cache or plugin conflict with the latest version of our theme. I would recommend you to update your theme to version 8.0.6 and Cornerstone 5.0.6 and check if that issue still exists or not.

I would suggest you follow the below steps while updating to the latest version of the theme.

  1. Delete the Cornerstone
  2. Update the X theme to the latest version on automatic updates
  3. After the X theme is updated, use the link in the dashboard to automatically install the Cornerstone. It will be at the latest version

I would also suggest you troubleshot a few common issues on this.

1.Plugin Conflict
2.Theme Update related issue
3.Child Theme Related issue
4.CSS/JS Customization

If you discover that an issue is coming from a custom code or 3rd party plugin, kindly consult with a developer or contact the plugin author. Please note that we do not provide support for custom codes and 3rd party plugins.

If none of the above helps and you are still getting the issue, please provide login credentials for your staging site in a secure note to examine it further, including:

– WordPress Site URL & Login URL
– WordPress Admin username/password

To create a secure note, click the key icon underneath any of your posts.

Thanks

Hello,

thanks for answering.

By disabling all the plugins and enabling them back again, it looks like a plugin conflict with the latest version of X-Theme. FYI the plugin is the SG Optimizer by Siteground.

Thanks again for the help.

@Nox1, I wouldn’t say SG Optimizer is the culprit as a whole. It is most probably just some of its options, like combining & minifying JS. Either turn off those settings, or exclude JS from X.

Hey There,

This is correct. minifying and combining css and js files can sometimes cause issues with the page rendering that’s why we recommend trying this out on staging first especially when doing major changes like big theme updates due to the fact that that combined js and css needs to get regenerated. In your case in a first step as outlined by @Misho I would try disabling the minifcation and comibnation of js and css and see if that solves the issue.

That’s right! Minifying the JavaScript files seems to cause the problem. Combining seems to work.

Thanks @rubin and @Misho for the help.
