We have a website which was first built about 3 years ago using the original Cornerstone builder and has slowly evolved to v.2 and then once Pro was released, was converted to that.
We are now making the website multilingual using WPML.
I have been following the instructions as per: https://wpml.org/documentation/theme-compatibility/xtheme/. i.e using the string translation functionality of WPML.
What we have found:
The earliest pages generally work but with some bugs e.g. some images do not appear on translated pages.
Later pages (presumably built in v.2) are translated with no issues.
New pages built in the ‘Pro’ version editor do not work at all for string translation. All we get in the string translation section is a single ‘body’ string with only code.
I know a workaround is manual translation but I would much rather use string translation as it allows translators to use the familiar interface rather than modifying individual pages in the main builder. It is also far less efficient for multiple languages.
There seems to be some mixed information on this topic so before we go any further, I would appreciate if you could clarify this issue and let me know if it is indeed possible.
I’m not too concerned if we have to rebuild some of the original legacy pages but I do want to know that newly built pages are and will be compatible with string translation as stated in the WPML article.
