WPML translation - post layout and URL?

Hi,

I have made a new website for a client. The main language is Danish and it can be translated to English with WPML.

Most of it works great, but I’m having a hard time translating the last bits in the post layout and I don’t get why my posts have a URL like this: https://saaf.dk/en/nyheder/force-majeure-and-faulty-prerequisites-how-to-protect-your-business-in-2025/ - the word nyheder is Danish for news.

There is a translation of nyheder to news (https://saaf.dk/en/news/) which works fine, but if you click on one of the news (posts), the URL will say /nyheder/ and not /news/?

Update…

I tried to go to the post layout in Cornerstone but when switching to English language, I get this error…

Hey @Kobber,

Try resetting the permalinks by going to Settings > Permalink and click the Save Changes button.

If that doesn’t work, please provide the following info in a Secure Note and we’ll check the issue.

  • WordPress Login URL
  • Admin username and password

You can find the Secure Note button at the bottom of your posts.

Thanks.

Hi @christian,

I think it has something to do with my permalink structure. I have this custom structure ; saaf.dk/nyheder/%postname%/

I tried resetting the permalinks without luck, so please take a look. I’ve added the login info.

Thanks in advance.

To be honest - My customer and I got tired of waiting (more than two days) for a solution, so I did something else. It is not the preferred solution, but I can’t wait this long to get on with my work. It’s very disappointing.

Hello @Kobber,

The custom structure of your permalink is the one that caused the issue. Be advised that having a custom permalink domain.com/nyheder/%postname%/ is not translatable. Even using WPML, you canno translate custom permalink. You will have to remove or modify your custom permalink.

Thanks.
