WPML prompt not showing up

Hi folks,

According to the Theme.co documentation, we should get a prompt from Cornerstone when entering a page to create a translated copy of the origin page.

I’m not seeing that prompt in our installation. Is there something I need to do to enable this feature? I installed WPML and ran the automatic translation before I installed the String Translation — maybe that’s part of it?

Thanks!

Luke

Hello Luke,

Thanks for writing in!

Please make sure that you are using the latest versions:

  • Pro Theme 6.1.9 or
  • X theme 10.1.9
  • Cornerstone 7.1.9

And also, please make sure that you have enabled translation for the post, pages, header or footer in the WPML settings.

Best Regards.

Hi @ruenel,

Yep, I can confirm that we’re on Pro 6.1.9 and that we’ve enabled translation for posts, pages, headers, and footers in the WPML settings. I’ll also confirm that we’re on the latest WPML version, too — saw that came out the other day and hoped that the issue would resolve, but alas, no dice.

Thanks!

Hello @lukefinsaas,

Please go to Pages > All Pages and you will see something like this:

There is a flag that indicates the language of the page. You can either Review the language (eye icon), Edit the language translation (pen icon) or Update the translation (arrows in circle icon). It means that there is already a translation page available. This is why you can no longer see the Create new translation in the builder.

If you check out the “An X Test by Rue” page, you will notice that it has the (+ icon) which means that there are no language translations for that page yet. So, if you are in the builder, as soon as you click on the flag in the upper right corner, it will ask you to create one as shown in the screenshot above.

  • See the secure note below.

What you can do to the existing translation pages is if you want to use the builder, you can save the sections as a template and then use that template to create those translation pages.

Best Regards.

Hi @ruenel,

Hmm. When I installed the tool, we didn’t get those options (as the pages were already built), but I suspect that I can uninstall / reinstall WPML to get that to work.

I tried creating a russian translation of your test page and it copied over the English text. How does the actual translating happen? Is there another step that I need to go through or do we need to input the translation ourselves? (Doesn’t feel very automated.)

Thanks.

Hello @lukefinsaas,

It simply copies the English version into your new Russian translation page. You can then edit the English text and replace it with the Russian translations. Basically, it copies the layout and all the elements into the new translation page. You just have to edit the text with the language of that new page.

If you use the “Blank”, that means that you will have an empty canvas and will have to create the layout from scratch.

Hope this helps.
