WPML and PRO compatibility

I read here: https://theme.co/apex/forum/t/wpml-translation-version-not-editable-in-pro/22838 that it’s not possible to translate the new cornerstone elements and only the old ones can be.

I just want to confirm if therefore the following tutorial is outdated: https://wpml.org/documentation/theme-compatibility/xtheme/

And the only way to translate the website with WPML is duplicating the full page instead of translating the strings separately (or use classic elements only).

Thanks

Carlos

We’ve added a way within the Content builder to automatically duplicate the page. We’ve been in touch with the WPML devs and they’re aware of that new feature. They’ve probably just not updated their documentation yet. At the moment we don’t have plans to add string translation.

In that line, I have received a messages saying something like: WPML configuration. One more step to start translating X Theme. To translate correctly, activate the translation editor of WPML.

Unfortunately, when I click on activate, it returns the error: This action is not permitted:

Hi there,

You may ignore it for now and start translating your page like from here https://www.dropbox.com/s/5oq0a5f7s2fd852/CornerstoneTranslation.mp4?dl=0

Thanks!

Hi. I have been talking with the WPML support here: https://wpml.org/forums/topic/tranlated-page-overwritten/#post-1539530

In sum, I’m trying to avoid having to translate the pages and updating CSS code, etc manually after each modification:

  • It’s easy for me to change the v2 elements by v1 elements if needed.
  • It’s hard for me to switch back to X instead of PRO (because of the header is fully done in pro which is very cool for that)

So, three questions:

  1. Is it possible to translate the strings instead of duplicate the pages if all the elements of the page are v1?
  2. If not, I guess I have to push on the “translate independently” button. Otherwise the translation is lost each time I modify the original page! Could I synchronise both pages when PRO is compatible with WPML?
  3. When do you estimate PRO will be compatible with WPML? I can wait some time to avoid wasting a lot of time afterwards!

Thanks for your support

Carlos.

Hi there,

Thanks for writing in.

  1. Yes, you can translate v1 elements since their texts are completely visible in the shortcode unless the texts are dynamically generated by shortcode itself. BUT by doing this, you can’t edit the page in the builder that correspond the language.

  2. You could sync them, but the problem with that is one is affected by changes from another. Translate independently gives you control for each page without worrying the other.

  3. There is no official ETA on it, but I can confirm that it’s still on our list and not yet implemented in recent updates. I think, it would come after the finalization of Pro structure and features.

Thanks!

OK. Thanks for the clarifications!

You’re most welcome!
