The addition of the Variables Manager is fantastic. It’s probably my favorite feature from 6.9
However it is a little bit basic in its current form.
Hopefully some of the following features can be added in future updates.
- Categories for grouping variables. You could then create categories for “Type Scale”, “Spacing”, “Shadows”, you name it. Currently it’s going to be one giant list of variables that will be very hard to scan through with no options to group entries visually and logically.
- Bulk actions (duplicate, delete, move to different group/category, etc.)
- Easy import and export options.
- A live search bar at the top of the variables list.
- Set a global prefix for all variables (before the initial --)
- Many 3rd party tools give you a list of variables to copy/paste and sometimes there’s a JSON option too (color palette and type scale tools for example) so it would be nice to have the ability to just copy such lists and paste it in CS, and it would automatically create a variable for each item. The current process is manual and tedious.
- A variables shortcut button on any input that accepts DC. This would speed up the insertion of variables because you’d no longer have to first click the DC button -> type in “var” or scroll down the list -> click on the Variable option under Global -> click the variable selector. This proposed shortcut button would open the variable selector straight away.
Most of these are inspired by Bricks.
