Upgrading php is causing site to crash

Why is upgrading php causing the site to crash? My hosting company have spent most of the day repairing it and say it is the theme (x). Every time I upgrade php on the staging site version, it gives a critical error

I upgraded from 7.4 to 8.2

Support here advised me to upgrade php because when they tried to update x theme it also crashed

I would suggest you please ensure that you have updated the WordPress core, theme, and plugins. I would suggest you troubleshoot a few of the common issues before we investigate your settings.

If it doesn’t work for you, please share your details in a secure note. Please provide the following details

  • WordPress Login URL
  • Admin-level username and password
  • FTP details
