Update old X Theme

Hi, I have a site that uses X theme 4.6.4. I would like to update it to a newer one, I also bought a license. I followed the instructions on how to update the template manually but unfortunately there are problems “Fatal Error”. I tried to solve the problem myself by disabling plugins, etc., but unfortunately nothing helped . I would like you to help me. All details about the original site and the staging site access to them can be sent in a private message.

Hi Maria,

Thanks for reaching out.
As you are using a much older version, I would suggest you please copy your live site to a staging server and update the Theme by following the below steps.

  1. Delete the Cornerstone
  2. Update the X theme to the latest version on automatic updates
  3. After the X theme is updated, use the link in the dashboard to automatically install the Cornerstone. It will be in the latest version

If everything goes fine in your staging please migrate the staging server to live.

Hope it helps.
Thanks

When Im try to input code to unlock automatic updates, i have this error “cURL error 28: Connection timed out after 10001 milliseconds”, so i cant do second step for now…

Hi Maria,

If an automatic update is not possible, please delete the theme by activating any other theme and then download the latest version from your Themeco Account and upload it from Appearance> Themes.

Thanks

So, im do the following steps, and when activate new version of X theme i have “HTTP ERROR 500 . Website is currently unable to handle this request.”

Hi Maria,

Can you please provide login credentials for your staging site in a secure note to examine it further, including:

– WordPress Site URL & Login URL
– WordPress Admin username/password
– FTP/CPanel details to access the files.

To create a secure note, click the key icon underneath any of your posts.

Thanks

Hi Maria,

Unfortunately, the FTP details do not work. Can you please check and let us know?

Thanks

For me it works, im using FileZilla

Hi Maria,

I am using the FileZilla too.

Thanks

Hi Maria,

I have tried all possible ways in the FileZilla, but unfortunately, the result was the same and it didn’t connect with the server. I would suggest you contact an external developer who can assist you with this.

Thanks

Hi! Im updated the secure note , check please

Hi Maria,

Unfortunately, that is also not worked.

Thanks

For me it works fine, also tested from different PC with different OS, windows and mac. Im also contact with Hosting Support, they check data and say that everything is OK, they can connect by FTP

Hi Maria,

I have also checked with my other colleagues and the result was the same. Can you please check if there is any IP Restriction applied to it? If any Country or IP restriction is applied, please remove it.

Thanks

Hi. You can try again. Now it should work

Hi! Did it work?

Hello Maria,

I checked the site it seems that there was an issue with the version compatibility, I went ahead and updated the WordPress version and updated the plugins, and now the website is working fine at the moment. There is still some issue with the WPML plugin since you are using quite an older version of the plugin. I would suggest you please update the plugin and then check it.

Please note you must check the version compatibility before updating the theme, plugin, and WordPress core.

Hope it helps
Thanks

Hi, thanks for your help, but unfortunately it doesn’t work that well. First, when I want to edit a page with Cornerstone, I get infinite loading. I also had in the admin panel on the left sidebar tabs with “Rooms”, “Menu”, “News” post_type=room, post_type=news etc. , and now everything has unfortunately disappeared.

Hi Maria,

I have compared the Live and Staging servers and found that code for those Post Types is added in the function.php of the theme in the live server.

And as you have updated the Theme in staging, the custom code is removed. Now you need to add it again. To avoid the same problem in the future, I would suggest you add the code into the functions.php of the Child Theme. So, if you update the parent theme, the code will be present in the child theme.

You can check and download the child theme through this article: https://theme.co/docs/child-themes

Hope it helps.
Thanks
