Uh Oh! No Suitable Preview Area Found On Grandchildren Pages

Hi Themeco Support,

I’m experiencing an issue with the Layout Builder in Pro.

I’ve created a custom layout using the Theme Builder (Pro → Layouts), and it is correctly applying to child-level pages , but not to grandchild-level pages .

On grandchild pages, I’m seeing the message:

“The content is not being output by the current layout.”

To clarify:

  • The layout works as expected on parent and direct child pages.
  • As soon as I visit a grandchild page (e.g. /about/team/history), the layout no longer applies.
  • There are no page-specific conditions restricting the layout.
  • I’m using conditional assignment in Layouts, but it appears that grandchild pages aren’t being caught.

Can you please advise how to resolve this and ensure that the layout applies to all descendant pages within a section?

If I go up a level, the page works as expected. I have checked the Layout Assignments and both Child and Grandchild are on the same “Default”.

To help you with your concerns, we need to check your settings, I would request you please share the admin login details meanwhile I would suggest you troubleshoot a few of the common issues before we investigate your settings. Please share your details in a secure note. Please provide the following details

  • WordPress Login URL
  • Admin-level username and password
  • Exact page URL

Hi Thomas,

I was able to log into your website; however, the current user account does not have admin privileges and is unable to access the Pages section or Cornerstone editor.

Could you please review the user permissions and grant admin access to the existing account? Once that’s done, kindly let me know so we can proceed with the investigation.

I had a very similar thing a day ago. Child pages not editing / displaying.
After being totally stumped for a little bit… It had to with a custom base I had set in my permalinks being the same as the slug on one of the parent pages (for which the children would then not edit / display).
I changed the custom base paths (category or shop base I think) in permalinks to be different from the slug I used on my pages… resaved permalinks… and it all started working again.

Just a thought?

I have checked and reset the permalink to %postname% and now all the pages are loading properly in the Cornerstone.
