Translations using "layout assignment expressions"

In the most recent release notes it says this, how do we do this? Is there documentation?:

Hi @threeoten,

Thanks for reaching out.
Previously the Layout can be assigned to the predefined conditions only. Now, you can use the Dynamic Content expression to assign the layouts like other conditions.
You can use the same expresions used for other conditions. Please go through the following article on this.

Hope it helps.
Thanks

I’m specifically asking if there is any documentation on the scenario described in the release notes that I screen captured above. There is no mention of translations in the doc you sent.

I created a doc based on Layout Expressions when using a URL. The example uses a lang property in the URL which is based on what Polylang or WPML would use depending on the settings. You could do a lot with URLs and expressions so it’s not strictly a translation thing. Let me know if you have any questions and have a great weekend!

Thanks! Is there documentation on how to get such custom properties into the URLs?

Hey @threeoten,

Your append or write ?lang=es after the URL. For multiple parameters, you use & to add another parameter like ?lang=es&anyname=myname. For more info, please read this.

That tells me what to add to the url, but not where I actually add it. Are you saying I just append it in the “slug” field on any given page?

Hello @threeoten,

No, you will have to use a translator plugin like the WPML.

Cheers.

You need WPML? Wait… so what about “Imagine the ability to create your very own translation layouts without any translations plugins!” stated in the last release notes? (screenshot in OP)

Hi @threeoten,

You can translate your content without the help of any plugin. But to show the translated content for the specific language, you need to add some URL parameters that can be used to detect the language and show the specific content. As an example, there are two different sections, one with content in English and another one in Spanish. So you can set conditions for these sections to show them based on the URL parameter.

Hope I am able to explain it.
Thanks

Is there a way to add these URL parameters to URLs without a translation plugin?

Hello @threeoten,

Regretfully we do not have any recommendation on how to use URL parameters to your translation URLS without a plugin.

Thanks.
