Thought about the Devtool - Possible feature request

I notice now that I’m playing around with dynamic content more that I also miss the direct access to this tool. Especially when using dynamic content for images you kinda need to have devtools open to remember what you put there again (this is more a standalone issue for many I think).

But now I was thinking, would it be a good option to have the devtools icon coming back where now the icon is for custom code in the bottom right.
And to have the custom code also added as tab in the devtools.

And then to maybe really go crazy, have the option to drag out a tab and have this separate opened within your workspace.

Just all a thought, no idea if this is easily done or if other users here don’t see the benefits of this at all.

There were quite a few requests to have the dev tools moved during the beta. It was kind of shot down with no real solid reasons except keeping less clutter which doesn’t really make sense. It has to be activated and I’m pretty sure most of us who use it would prefer it more accessible.

So a +1 for me on moving it. (And I guess another attempt at getting it moved.)

I agree it could be moved especially if you are using it a lot and you have to turn it on. I also like the spot of next to custom code. I’ll get it on the books.

I’m curious, what is everybody using the Dev tools for the most?

Images desperately need to have an easier way to add dynamic content. My idea is to have a text input below the image preview.

A simple input below the image would be great! I’m probably saying something dangerous now but the image preview can even go all together for me in case you need room, I see my image anyway in my layout and when using dynamic content you don’t see a preview anyway.

And yes to have the dev tool back would also be great.

One last thing, bit off topic, but earlier today I was searching for the short cut list and apart from finding it in the dev tools I couldn’t find it anymore, is it gone or am I just missing something?

Probably also off topic but something that has been spoken about with regards to images.

It would be fantastic to have the name of mage displayed somewhere in the builder. At the moment all you see if the preview and if you want to get the image name you need to open the page in the browser and inspect the image.

Even just a tooltip or title on the image preview would be helpful.

Great ideas. I’ll have to think on all this and our first iteration of changing the image field might not be the last.

@SchoonhovenOntwerpStudio List of keyboard shortcuts is in the same area as where the dev tools button currently is. See the help one.

This beta forum needs an upvote/downvote tool. I believe devtools should be more accessible too and it already has a great spot to be, right next do custom code (where you could implement the same “reload” button from custom JS tabs too :P).

I just disagree with merging dev tool kit and custom CSS. New users aren’t aware of dev tool kit and may miss custom CSS code, as it’s more used.

@charlie for images I think you could implement the same dropdown selector from background images and add and option for “URL/String/DC” with the DC button in the input, without killing the preview (that could annoy some users):

You can even change shorcuts keybinds to match your preferences via the Dev Toolkit > Tools > Data Store > Preferences > Edit State
