Site Crashed - shows shortcodes

Hi there,
Our site has crashed unfortunately. It’s not displaying images or CSS (fonts, etc) and displays all the theme’s shortcodes as code on the live site.
So far I have tried:

  • Deactivating plugins,
  • Rolling back to a previous version of X Theme, and
  • Rolling back to a previous version of WordPress,
however the issue persists. Can you please help?
    Regards,
    Gavin

Hello @gavgeorge,

Thanks for writing in! You need to update the Cornerstone plugin to the latest version. Make sure to update the X theme too. Check out the changelog here:

If this is your first time updating the theme and plugin, kindly check out this documentation first:

Best Regards.

Hi thanks for your reply. We haven’t activated Cornerstone for some time as activating it crashes our site, and haven’t found a dev that can find the issue or workaround. We have managed without it until now. Given the site has worked successfully for over 2 years, there must be another issue. Thanks in advance.

Hi again,
Iv’e done a bit more investigation and it appears the issue is with the last two available X Theme updates. Are you please able to provide an earlier version of the theme so we can get our site back up again while we troubleshoot and implement a more permanent fix in our staging site? Many thanks

Hey @gavgeorge,

Try updating X first before activating Cornerstone. If that doesn’t work, temporarily switch to the default WordPress theme and delete the Cornerstone plugin and then delete the X theme and reinstall the latest X version. You can download the latest version from your dashboard or in Themeforest. Once X is installed, activate it then install the Cornerstone plugin via the link the will appear in your WordPress Dashboard.

After that, activate your child theme. If your site breaks after activating your child theme, this is the time you’ll need to call a developer or you can subscribe to our One service and we’ll check why your child theme is causing the issue.

Thanks.

Ok thanks, Ive just subscribed to One service so hopefully we can get it back online soon.

Thank you for subscribing to One.

Hello,
Since the team at One service have been investigating our website, some more serious issues have arisen, such as all of our articles have disappeared - evidence provided in a secure note below.

Can you please look into this as a priority? I am happy to jump on a call or have live chat to resolve ASAP.

Many thanks.

UPDATE: I discovered that the One Service team member had deactivated our child theme, which has returned us to the original issue as posted, and the reason we subscribed to One - “we’ll check why your child theme is causing the issue.”

Looking forward to a quick resolution to this (it’s coming on 6hrs without a response from the One team).

Many thanks

Hello @gavgeorge,

Our developers are currently checking your heavily modded Child theme. In the meantime, kindly temporarily deactivate these deprecated X - {Name} plugins.

Delete these plugins and install the latest ones that are available in our Themeco repository. You can go to X > Validation > Extensions.

If you can revert to the site backup, switch to the backup before any of these issues. Then, clone the working version in a staging area. You can do the updates and troubleshooting in the staging area. Once everything goes smoothly, that is the time to push all the updates to the live site. This is a MUST in doing updates to prevent disrupting the live when there are issues with the updates. Check out this documentation to set up a staging area: https://www.wpbeginner.com/wp-tutorials/how-to-create-staging-environment-for-a-wordpress-site/

Best Regards.

Kindly let us know how it goes.
