Remove individual Portfolio link item

Hi guys,
I have read a few topics to remove the item link on the main portfolio gallery page.
I have tried : .x-portfolio .entry-thumb:before {
display: none;
} it does not seem to work for me. Is there an easy option to simply remove the link to the portfolio item page? I would like a custom link for each portfolio item.
