Redesigning Website Using DesignCloud Template and Need Help

I’m currently redesigning one of my websites in Pro. I’m using a staging website to do so, of course.

Instead of starting over and building it from scratch, I decided to use the “Auto” site template in Design Cloud. While my site has nothing to do with cars at all, I liked the layout overall of this template the best.

I installed the site template and began trying to edit it but for some reason it is not laid out like the demo template, at least in the page builder. When I go into the “Theme Options” to set those settings, I see the site template laid out exactly as I saw it in the demo. However when editing individual pages or posts, it is an odd combination of the old site and the new and not all of the elements are editable.

I know this is a noob sort of question, but I’m quite puzzled as to why this is laid out like it is and how I can tweak it to have the look and feel of the original template (adjusted with my customizations of course).

I’ve tried finding content both here on this site as well as on YouTube, etc., that may explain in simpler terms how to redesign an existing site using a DesignCloud template but no such info seems to exist.

Unless somehow I am searching for it incorrectly. Any help anyone can offer is appreciated.

Hello @ConjuringMind,

Thanks for writing in!

The demo sites and templates to speed up building your site. They are not helpful enough in rebuilding your site because you already have site contents. It is better to start from scratch in a staging site and slowly import the posts or other pages than doing what you are doing right now.

Be advised that only pages (or posts) created in Cornerstone Content Builder can be edited with the builder. You cannot edit your existing pages that were built with WP editor (or other builders) using the Cornerstone Content Builder.

Hope this makes sense.

Yes, that does make sense. The existing site was built in Cornerstone with the regular X Theme. Though I purchased a Pro license some time back when I was building a different site for something else, and I only recently upgraded this specific site to Pro.

So I should then simply re-design each page or post using a custom Layout perhaps, and then import the content?

Hi @ConjuringMind,

Yes, you need to create a layout for your posts and pages using Cornerstone or you can create global layouts using Layout builder, please check this out.

Hope that helps.
