Question Request - Presets as Elements

Just watched @kory’s super useful video on Presets as Elements

Sure its been asked before, not sure where is on the radar of work… are there plans to enhance presents to allow future changes to a present to be reflected in all places that a preset has seen used?

For example; I create a V2 Button preset and use it on n’number of pages, posts, et cetera - after sometime I wish to change the design settings of preset button and have the change reflected on all locations where the button has been used.

Am I correct is saying is this currently not possible? Sure you are aware another builder provides this feature.

Not sure if and how Global Blocks fit into this?

Just sure its a common use case to design something and save as a preset, be it a any V2 element including columns, rows, sections and later wish to change the style without having to laboriously find every location it used accross the site and change it.

Hi @strobley,

Still no plans in that respect at this time. It’s quite a different technical process. Everything we’ve done to date with presets just overwrites data or creates new data. We don’t have anything setup to reference existing “shared data” in that way. Global Blocks is the closest thing we have, but that is much simpler because it’s like pulling in an entire page effectively into an existing design and we already have ways to store and manage that level of data (WordPress post type). We’ve not ruled it out altogether, but it would be a significant amount of work so we are currently prioritizing other projects, notably the Grid element in this cycle and the Layout Builder next.
