Pro 6.8 - color picker light-dark feedback

Haven’t had much time to test Pro 6.8 in between work and testing the CS Forms beta so this feedback may come a little late.

Love the light-dark support, however you must specifically know about it to use it. The color picker UI gives you no hints that you can use light-dark values. And if you do use it then the color swatch only shows the first color of the pair, again no visual clues there. Could this be enhanced so that the swatch shows both chosen colors so you can instantly see the chosen light and dark color variants in the palette and the picker?

Oh this is rad, I hadn’t noticed Pro is now plumbed for typing light-dark(#fff, #1a1a1a) values in this release. Very cool!

I had noticed in one of the other posts you said it would be coming in the next major release @Charlie, but I thought you were talking about what comes after 7.8. Is the plan to support it manually typed in now, but expose a UI for it later? Agree with @JvP that making it more obvious would be useful. (Also, perhaps offering it as an opt-in setting somewhere so people don’t accidentally break their UI by inputting one single light/dark color value for text without a corresponding change for the background colors too – so easy to miss things when doing a dark mode migration)

I was in the middle of building a whole design system stack in order to support this and generate some color variables to work with my system – so very curious to hear what the plan is for this long-term.

Also, a new element for us to put a dark/light/system toggle in the header would be rad. This kind of UI would pair nicely with the hamburger/grid menu icons in the toggles for drop-down.

Yeah, CS Forms could perhaps help here although not everyone will need/want CS Forms so something built in would be cool.

It may also be nice to have an option in CS to quickly toggle between light and dark mode to preview the light-dark color choices without having to toggle light and dark mode settings at the OS level.

This release just let’s you use light-dark as a color. In the future we would have a UI similar to how gradients work where you could select and see your light and dark color together. I’ll keep in mind having a preview mode for light and dark themes too. Thanks for the feedback.
