Post Layout for SEO

I am redesigning my posts pages as I do not think they are working well for SEO.
I am also doing this to try and comply with and take advantage of the Google ‘Helpful content’ update.
One issue is it is difficult to know how to build the page correctly. What should be in ‘Headlines’ and what should be in ‘Text’ elements.
Should the H1 title be in the Header or in the ‘Content’? And the featured image?
Also building other elements such as the index, which I am currently building using Headline with the index in the sub heading.
Does anyone have any advice on this?
It would be great if the was a template in Cornerstone that has all of this.
Thank you.

Hello @helplovesupport,

Thanks for writing to us.

In order to create a post layout, please ensure that you are using the Pro theme. You can use the Layout builder to create a custom Post layout with the help of Layout Builder. You can also import the preset post layout template and customize it as per your design and SEO requirements. To import the layout please create a single post layout and click on the Template icon —>Themeco —>select any template. Please have a look at the screenshot below.

Thanks

Thank you for your reply Prakash.
I am aware that those templates are there. They are however very basic and were made some time ago.
Currently, there is still an issue with Yoast, which you have said you are working on.
Yoast says that the keyword is not in the introduction. This is either that Yoast is not detecting it, or the introduction is incorrectly placed.
It would be really helpful, to have a support section devoted to posts SEO. Currently, a search on Docs for SEO returns zero results. Currently, we do not know how to design our posts for SEO.
We need to know exactly how to design the page, Should the featured image and H1 tag be in the Header or the content of the post. Should the introduction text be in a Headline or a Text element. Should all the text be in one block, or broken up with the H2, H3 etc. How to make and where to put the table of contents.
I do not know how I can check what is correct, so really reliant on you for this.

Hey Edward,

We do not have an SEO article neither can we give advice on SEO because we are not SEO experts. Please consult with an SEO professional to advise you on the optimal structure for your own content strategy. There is no one-size-fits-all solution so this cannot be put into template nor an article.

Once you have the structure you need, you can set the HTML Tag to use in most elements.

Regarding content analysis, I’d just share that most SEO professionals using Pro and even other page builders are not using an SEO plugin for content analysis. They use an external SEO content analysis tool. One that can analyze an entire site and not just page per page. SEO plugins content analysis feature is only good for simple linear content.

Thank you for your reply, Christian.
Yes, I am using external SEO content analysis tools. SEMRush is the main one, but also others.
However, the starting point for most people will be most likely the Yoast SEO plugin.
This tells you if you have fulfilled the basic parameters for SEO on the page.
You say ‘Once you have the structure you need, you can set the HTML Tag to use in most elements.’ The issue is that I do not know what structure I need!
Currently, Yoast is telling me ’ Your keyphrase or its synonyms do not appear in the first paragraph.’
I have tried every option but I cannot get this to go away. The keyphrase is of course there.
What I would like to know is ‘what is considered to be the introduction section in a Cornerstone Post?’
How should the page be setup to comply with Google for this?
Div
Headline
Sub heading (And this is the introduction?)
OR
Text
H2 Heading
P Text (And this is the introduction?)
I am aware that there are issues with Yoast and Conrnerstone and I was told that they were being addressed and hopefully resolved by the end of last month. any update on this?

Hey Edward,

The first headline and text element would be your first or introduction section.

As mentioned previously, we cannot give advice on this because we are not SEO experts. Yoast SEO could not guarantee this either. With that said, it’s best to hire a SEO professional.

We don’t have a timeline when Yoast Content Analysis will be compatible. If you need the content analysis, please use the default WordPress Editor then examine then take note of the tags and/or HTML structure you use so you can replicate it in Cornerstone. I understand this takes extra work but this is the only way for now.

H and thank you for your reply.
You say ‘The first headline and text element would be your first or introduction section.’
Which one is it? It has to be one, not 2. The intro text should be §.
And please kindly clarify what the difference is between ‘Headline’ and ‘Text’?
It looks like the ‘Text’ element is redundant and that it is much better to use ‘Headline’ everywhere and set the HTML tag accordingly. You can then control the HTML tag of the text no matter what size you choose in the editor.
You say ‘it’s best to hire a SEO professional.’ I am trying to be a professional! The issue is the lack of information from the developer. Can you recommend an SEO professional to answer these questions?
You say ‘please use the default WordPress Editor’ could you please expand on this? I must change the theme from Pro? Then look at the page in say ‘Twenty Twenty-One’? When I do this it does not have the ‘tags and/or HTML structure’. This does not seem like a sensible suggestion at all.
I would suggest a better way is to use the ‘Inspect Page.’
All of this is making me feel that it is going to be best to use Pro/Cornerstone on pages that I want great design and then be able to use a different template, of as you suggest, the ‘default WordPress Editor’ for pages where I want the SEO to be correct!

Hey Edward,

Headline is your h1, h2, h3, etc… Text is your paragraph. The p tag. I believe you already know that. That is the difference between the Headline and Text elements. They are not redundant.

We don’t have an SEO service nor can we recommend an SEO professional. SEO professionals do know technical SEO and can read the source code regardless of page builder used and without the help of a developer or tech support.

No, you don’t have to change the theme. If you need SEO analysis from a plugin, you simply need to create a page using the default WordPress editor. It’s the Visual or Text editor you see when creating a page. This is only to read the analysis or to see if your content is correctly structured. You can then take note of the structure to replicate it in Cornerstone. For example, you have an h2 and a paragraph in the WP Editor. In Cornerstone, that’s a Headline (H2 HTML tag) element and a Text element. If you add an image in the WP Editor, that’s an Image element in Cornerstone.

We have many SEO users who have achieved great design and search engine ranking. This only depends on the user’s SEO skills. Sadly, we don’t have a list of SEO users here and we cannot teach technical SEO as that is beyond the theme support. What we can teach you is how to add specific elements in a page.
