Pagination on custom layout

hi there,

i have a question:
as i understand i cannot add multiple archive layouts to different sites, right? so i can only have one archive layout and this has to be assigned as the blog page. so in reality only one layout from archive layout builder is useable? that itself is odd…
because of that, i now made a custom page and made a layout. i have a lot of different things to show on different sites, with different content (i do this with cptui and acf).
on the custom page now the pagination does not work. all other stuff does work. is this a correct behaviour? because this would be really odd… how can i archive pagination now?

thanks in advance for your help.

Hi @deranaloge,

Can you please provide login credentials for your site to examine the settings and options for pagination? Please add the following info in a secure note:

– WordPress Site URL & Login URL
– Specific Layout and Page which consist of the pagination
– WordPress Admin username/password

To create a secure note, click the key icon underneath any of your posts.

Thanks

hi tristup,
infos and creds in secure note

Hello @deranaloge,

With the release of the latest Pro theme, you can have multiple custom layouts for your archives. You can have design 1 for the blog index, design 2 for the category archive, design 3 for the tag archive pages and have a different custom layout design for the search results. You can only have one custom layout for the blog index though. For the pagination, you should be able to insert the Pagination element in any of those custom layout designs.

Now, I have checked your page that needs pagination. It is actually a normal page that uses Loopers to display post items. Regretfully you cannot insert the Pagination element here because pagination works for the archive pages only. For a single page or post, the Post Navigation element will be used.

Hope this explains your issue briefly.

hi runuel,

thanks for your answer.
i understand that but that was what i described in my first post allready…

i have 5 custom post types and i need different archive pages for all 5 post types. so for my understanding i cannot use the layout builder for those?

post type 1 = archive page 1 with different colors and different text and header image before the posts
post type 2 = archive page 2 with different colors and different text and header image before the posts
post type 3 = archive page 3 with different layout, different colors and different text and header image before the posts
post type 4 = archive page 4 with different layout, different colors and different text and header image before the posts

i am right that does not work with the layout builder?

but that was exactly what I expected. I think I’m not alone …
the work around with the custom page would work if there was a pagination element for this case. I don’t understand why that doesn’t work, since it’s positioned in the provider anyway. why is this element even visible in the normal layout builder?

is there a chance that we can see such an element? or will it be possible to have multiple archive pages? can i make a workaround?

thanks in advance

Hey @deranaloge,

You can assign a different layout to different post type archives. Please create different layouts using the Layout Builder and assign each layout to each of your post type archive like in the first screenshot below. Then, add the Post Navigation element (2nd screenshot). We’ll then continue supporting you if you have any difficulty after that.

Just to let you know, we have a tutorial video on the usage of the Layout Builder. You can watch below.

Hope that helps.

hi,

even if i made a custom post type with cptui?
i have 5 custom post types. for each archive i need a separate layout that should be displayed on its own page. is that possible?

cheers

Yup, I do exactly that right now. Set the condition in the layout settings like they posted above, and you can have a different design/layout for every post type archive. It will show up at yourdomain/post-type

Thanks for chipping in with a solution, @xRae!

i did setup the condition for the post type nächtigungsbetrieb. but still the only posts that are shown are the test posts from the main blog.
anyone can help?

thanks

okay i think i got it. the problem was the preview. i had to setup the preview to post type too.

thanks again and sorry
