[Not possible] Is it possible to translate WC Single Layouts with WPML?

Hi there!

I was wondering if it’s possible to translate WC Single Layouts using the WPML Translation Editor. When I select a Layout and edit it in the Translation Editor, all I see is the title and not the content. There is some static content that I would like to translate.

Many thanks!

Hello @Dagaloni,

Thanks for writing to us.

If you are using WPML, you should be able to translate your custom layout. Please check out this documentation:

Hope it helps
Thanks

Thank you for the quick reply! That is good to know.

I checked the documentation, but I can’t figure out why nothing but the product title is shown in the WPML translation editor when I translate a layout. There are header, text and tab elements that I would like to translate.

I don’t want to us the language switcher in Cornerstone as my understanding is that it creates duplicate. So when the design changes, the design needs to be updated across all duplicates. That is why I want to use the WPML Translation editor, to only translate the text.

Additionally: the same goes for the header and footer. I can’t translate those with the WPML Translation Editor. Everything is stored in HTML and I assumed that would open the way for translation.

Hey @Dagaloni,

Please share the screenshot is a public because we do not have access to your NAS.

Please edit the WooSingle and use the translation button for each language so that the elements in your layout like the add to cart button will be translated.

Hope this makes sense.

Hi @ruenel!

Thank you for your reply!

For some reason, all the translations were gone for the products. Please be careful, thank you!

I don’t want to use the Cornerstone translation switcher as it creates duplicates of the layout and does not translate the text. When I change the design, I have to update it for all duplicates, instead of just once. That is why I only want to translate the text using WPML.

Sorry about the screenshots, I forgot about the firewall settings on the NAS.

What I do is the following:

  1. Select the Woo Single Layout in the Translation Management in WPLML to translate
  2. Set all language to ‘Translate myself’. WPML does see that there is text (~4000 words)
  3. Under WPML > Translation I select the Woo Single EN to translate
  4. But when opened, the only thing to translate is the title

Is there a way to make WPML understand that there is text to translate inside these layouts?

I saw this post: Translate component parameter with WPML using {{ __('Your translated text') }} but I don’t understand how that works.

I am in HTML Storage mode. I double checked al WPML is at the latest version.

I’m looking forward to your reply! Many thanks in advance!

Hey @Dagaloni,

The “Cornerstone translation switcher” shown by my colleague is the only way to translate Cornerstone Layouts. WPML’s Translation Editor will not work for Cornerstone Layouts.

The other method mentioned by @prakash_s is for coded custom templates not Cornerstone Layouts.

Hi @christian, oh that’s a bummer! I thought the HTML Storage would solve all this. Is full support for WPML coming including layouts, headers, footers and components?

Hey @Dagaloni,

Although the Layouts are post types, they are rendered differently or they are not like the regular post types.

We don’t have news as to when an update to the Layout translation would happen.

Please stay tuned.

Thanks! I will, keep up the good work!

Hi @Dagaloni,

You are most welcome.
