And…it seems this is not a priority, as the implementation was originally asked for in 2018. So, I want to do this using the text element and legacy short codes for embedding audio, etc… BUT, i cant seem to find the legacy shortcodes any longer. Can you please share a link to them?

Thank you for writing in, we strongly suggest utilizing the Global Block in this situation.
If you want to try the Legacy Audio shortcode you can find it here. You can paste it on a RAW Content element.

How would a global block work with the Memberpress content hide/show shortcode? Could you please explain a little further? Thanks

My colleague suggested creating Global Blocks and adding V2 elements instead of legacy shortcode into it, and use that Global Block as a shortcode anywhere you want.
I would suggest you go through the article on how to create a Global Blocks and use it as shortcode.
