Layout Builder keeps loading home page content

I’m using Layout Builder to create the format for blog posts. Unfortunately, whenever I create a new Layout, the preview of the page loads the formatting from my individual home page—which is a page and not a post.

The Layout preview contains a Slider Revolution slider, which only appears on my home page and any of the dynamic content elements (Title, Content, etc.) don’t load with Lorem Ipsum text, they load with actual formatted content from my home page. This makes it extremely difficult to format for a blog when all of the pre-formatted content from the home page is in the way.

To make matters more interesting. When I preview an actual Blog Post, it is correctly applying the Layout structure from Layout Builder to the Post with no content appearing from the home page. The problem only occurs in the preview within Layout Builder. Any suggestions?

Hello @lydonassoc,

Thanks for writing in!

When creating a single or archive layout, you should start off with a template if you are not familiar with how the builder works. You must have the Title and the Content dynamic elements in your layout so that the single post will display. If none of these elements are present, there will be no content when you view the page live. Please check out this documentation first:

Kindly let us know how it goes.

I understand how to make a Layout. The problem is that the Layout builder is loading my Home Page content into the Layout preview automatically.

Here is my Home Page:

Here is what loads when I create a new Layout set to “Type: Single” and load one of the templates:

You see that the Layout Builder preview is loading the content from the Home page including the Slider and the home page formatted content. It should not be loading anything. I should be getting empty Dynamic Content boxes and the Slider should not be appearing in this preview.

After working around these issues, my biggest hangup is that I have no control of “The Content” element. I cannot adjust margins, type style, etc.

You’ll see here that selecting The Content element only gives me a Presets option to edit:

You’ll also see, in this final Post, that I need to adjust the margins and type style for the Dynamic article text, but I can’t find a way to accomplish that:

Please let me know if there’s anything I can do to remedy this.

Hi @lydonassoc,

The Single Layout shows the content of Home Page, which is set through the Settings > Reading > Home Page. But the The Content will show the content of the respective posts, while you show any post in the front end.

Thanks

OK. Seems weird, but I can temporarily set the Home Page to “Your Latest Posts” to manage the build easier. How can I adjust the margin and styling of “The Content” element that’s loaded into the page?

Hi @lydonassoc,

Regarding your first issue about the homepage showing on the preview, that is weird. Can you show us what is your assignment condition on your Single Layout? Is it All Singular?, if the Layout is only for blog posts please change your assignment condition to Post Type is Post

And please note that you can actually change the page/post that shows on the layout builder preview.

Now on the “The Content” styling, unfortunately, there is no styling option on that element. What you can do is place that inside a Div element, and use the Div element styling options.

Hope it helps,
Cheers!
