Layout Builder: CPT and Assignments

I have an approach question and I am not even sure if it is possible.

We built a layout for a CPT and it works fab. Of course not that it is down I am not sure how to hook it into the page. The CPT layout is for a grid of all the CPTs and their taxonomies. I just assumed I could connect a layout to a page, but I cannot. So as for approach, what is the best way to handle it? Should I have built the loop directly on a page or can I use the layout builder?

Thank you!

Hi Michael,

Thanks for reaching out!

You can do both! You can loop the directly on a page or use a layout builder but it would be best if you could share with us more information on what you are trying to achieve. In that way, we can give you a proper advise on what’s the best way to do it.

Cheers!

Thank you!

OK, so we have a CPT called project portfolio. It is standard layout page with a loop with thumbnails where each thumbnail can click through to its single page. The layout also shows item terms atop the page that we will use as a filter for the project portfolio

We have a page on the website called Projects and i was hoping to assign this layout to that page and assign this layout to all terms/archives for this CPT.

I know how to do it directly in the page, I thought figuring out how to assign the layout would be the “correct” way?

Thank you for your help!!!

Michael

Hello Michael,

You can set the layout for the archives page of the custom post type, for that you need to set the condition like this. Please have a look at the given screenshot below.

You may check out our assignment documentation as well to learn more about assignment conditions.

Hope it helps
Thanks

Yes, that is what I thought and I have it set to, however, the page goes to the blog layout and not the Project layout. I have included login info to the site in the secure note. I have done this before and I truly hope I am just having a monetary lapse of thought. I appreciate your help and time.

Never mind. You jolted my memory. We had to alter the layout assignments for the blog as they were too global.

THANK YOU!!!

You are most welcome, Michael.
