Keyboard shortcuts request

Would it be possible to add some keyboard shortcuts?

I personally notice that when having to switch between different elements could be a lot easier and faster when there is a dedicated keyboard shortcut for this.

So if you could just go up and down in your element list without having to click first the outline panel and select the (next) element in your list, it would be very handy to have for example the keyboard shortcut: “ctrl + spacebar” for next element in the list and “ctrl + alt+spacebar” for previous element in your list.

I personally think this would be great to have but maybe it is just me

Cheers.

I would also like to have more shortcuts.

I use an elgato stream-deck while working with pro. There I already use shortcuts to switch to colors, fonts etc.

But it would make things much easier, if there would be shortcuts for:

  • differnet viewport sizes
  • the customize and effects section
  • preview in new tab
  • add element

Best regards

Uli

@ULinn Yes I agree, I would prefer to have more shortcut keys also. Maybe even to have an option to either assign the shortcut combinations yourself and/or a few open shortcut combinations to which you can assign your own shortcuts.
No idea if these things are easy to implement or not, but yes in general I’m all for having more shortcuts available.

Hey @ULinn this is very interesting. Would you be able to give a bit more insight on how you got this working. And what you know could be possible to do with the stream deck and X Pro?

Hi @Maratopia_Digital, you can assign shortcuts to the buttons of the streamdeck (called Hotkey). Here is a screenshot of the buttons I use right now:

StreamDeck_2021-07-16_10-59-02

The Colors button i.e. uses STRG+ALT+K

That’s it …

With this I have to use the mous less, but don’t have to learn any shortcut by heart.

Best regards!

Uli

Hi @SchoonhovenOntwerpStudio,

We’ve got a list accumulating of potential new shortcuts. The problem is we’re running out of viable shortcut combinations without colliding with browsers, or even existing shortcuts. The last few go arounds of adding new shortcuts was a painful process of finding ones that worked - we also don’t want to change any of them again which isn’t fair to people’s muscle memory.

We are planning on updating the “Keyboard Shortcuts” screen to allow custom mappings. What you’ll eventually see there is many different actions, but not all of them will be mapped by default. They you’ll have the option to setup any shortcut you want mapped to a particular action.

One example would be mapping the breakpoint icons to cmd+1, cmd+2, etc. These would be ideal shortcuts, but they conflict with the browsers behavior of switching to the first, second, etc. tab. If shortcuts were mappable,

@ULinn, that is super cool! Love how you’re using the stream deck to improve your workflow. I’m adding your requests as well.

Hi @alexander, that sounds great. The ability to adapt shortcuts to ones own workflow is perfect. You may never know what tools others are using so whatever shortcut you chose, it will be wrong
So if everyone has the freedom to map shortcuts for the function, he uses most, that’s perfect!

Fantastic topic! Looking forward for more shortcuts as well!

I am using a streamdeck-like solution with my Asus ScreenPad. Love it!

@Misho oh! Can you tell me a bit more how this works, I’m considering buying the Asus Zenbook Pro duo, is that also what you are using and did you need any additional software to set this up?

@SchoonhovenOntwerpStudio, that’s great! Because of the production delay they had, I waited so long for the new Zenbook Pro, but it was worth the wait. This is now my third generation Zenbook and it is absolutely fantastic.

In regards to the Screenpad, Quick Keys is a built-in feature. There is no need to install anything. Additionally, it can recognize the App and launch your shortcuts automatically.

The advantage of this solution over the hardware one is that you can also reach down for the shortcut with the mouse.

Nice, thanks for the info. Yes I have been having my eyes on this also already for a very long time but where I currently am they still don’t have the device available, only the i7 16gb and when I’m going to buy this one I’m going to buy it right  Good to hear that you are so happy with it!

Loving all the workflows discussed here. I’m going to see if we can prioritize the customizable shortcuts to come with Theme Options if not earlier.

Just to tag onto this, customisable shortcuts sounds amazing… with one caveat.

It would need to be possible to import/export shortcuts as otherwise the many sites we manage would have different shortcuts set which would render things impossible (on one site Cmd Opt D is Duplicate, and on another the same shortcut is Delete for example)

Good point! It’d be awful to have to remap them everytime. I’ll make a note of that. I imagine all this being stored in the same place as Preferences, so maybe we just need a way to import/export all that at once including shortcuts.
