Is it Possible to Copy the Ethos Portfolio Template into the Icon Stack?

We would like to configure the Portfolio page in a site built upon the Icon stack so that it adopts a similar appearance to the Portfolio page in the Ethos stack.

What is the easiest way for us to achieve that? For example, is it possible to copy the Ethos “Layout - Portfolio” template into the Icon Child theme and thereby use that instead? If so would it be necessary to also copy any CSS?

Note that the site is built upon an X-Theme Pro 4.1.5 Child theme.

Thanks in advance for any assistance that you can offer.

Hello @mgoodw,

Thanks for writing to us.

Regretfully, there is no default option at the moment. It would require custom development. I would suggest you contact a developer who can assist you with your concern. Please note that we don’t provide custom development support. it is out of the support scope.

Thanks for understanding

Thanks for your reply.

However unfortunately you haven’t really answered my question. I am aware that there is no standard option to do this but that is not the question I asked. I just would like to know if it is something that is feasible to do and, at high level, what is involved?

No doubt we have the technical wherewithal to do it but we do not have an in-depth knowledge of the structure of X so some expert pointers towards what needs to be done would be much appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

Hello @mgoodw,

Please understand that Ethos and Icon designs have a different independent set of styling. You cannot mix up the stack design on your site. You can only load only one stack at a time. To answer your question “Is it Possible to Copy the Ethos Portfolio Template into the Icon Stack?”, yes it is possible with a little bit of complex customization because the sort filter button in Ethos only works for Ethos. There are features and designs that only work for the Icon and for the Ethos. Custom coding will just make this more complicated and it may lead to conflicts and incompatibilities sooner or later.

Since you are using the Pro Theme, it is best that you create a custom portfolio page layout using the Layout Builder. You can style it as close as it can be. The only missing piece is the Ethos sort filter button since that filter is only unique to the Ethos stack. To get familiar with our newly launched Layout Builder, please check this out:

Best Regards.

Many thanks for your clear and comprehensive reply.
