Inline editing of text renders really slowly

I would occasionally run into this in previous releases, but it’s way more pronounced now. Essentially, I can’t use inline editing for any large text elements, because the builder doesn’t keep up with the typing.

Here’s a link to a dropbox video where you can see the speed at which the text shows up on the screen. I’m not the world’s fastest typist, but I’m typing way more quickly than the text is appearing within the builder.

You can also see that when I click outside the text element, it animates the typing all over again. Not shown in the video is that if you double click in the text element again while it’s animating a second time, you sometimes lose the text that hasn’t rendered yet.

Seems to get worse the longer you’ve had the page open, and the more edits you’ve made throughout the page.

This is happening in several of my test installs, in different environments, on both Chrome and Safari.

Confirmed. Thanks Devin! Look related to some changes we made in the rendering system. What should happen is that the server rendering is put on hold until you close inline editing. It’s simultaneously trying to handle the updates from typing inline, and those coming from the server.

Fixed in beta6.

Yup, nice and snappy now… but there’s a new somewhat related issue.

Once I finish editing inline, and click outside of the element to “finish” with it, all of the selection states stop working (the blue and green borders when you hover over elements).

Video here.

Thanks! Fixed.

Unfortunately, there are still some issues.

You can see in this video.

In short, if you try to move between inline editing of multiple different text fields, it seems to get overwhelmed. You’ll see a few times in the video that it randomly scrolls me way down the page, (I think because it “kicked me out” of the inline editor, and was registering the space bar as a scroll down trigger).

Anyway, seems easy enough to repro by just quickly trying to edit a few different inline fields on the same page. I’m on Safari, latest non-beta MacOS.

Confirmed.
