How to locate files to restore

Hello. Can you explain how to find the files for pages I design on my server? I’ve got Code Guard backing things up, but couldn’t figure out how to restore one page I messed up. For instance, this page: https://limelightdc.com/about/
Thank you.

Hey Kenny,

If you have not saved your design/page using the Template Manager, the only way you can restore is by a website backup. Please contact your web host to learn how to use Code Guard or any form of website backup they have. Website backups is beyond the control of themes in general.

So the pages I create cannot be found at the file manager level, correct?

Did you suggest saving them as templates just so that I have a form of backup in the system? Or is there a way to export templates? If it’s just to have a copy of my work in template style, it seems that my workflow of duplicating pages at the WordPress level is the same sort of backup system, right?

Hello Kenny,

Every time you add a new post or page, it will be saved in the WordPress database. The same goes for the custom header/footer layouts, page content, single and archive layouts will be saved in the database too. The Template Manager is just a great feature to manage those layouts where you can import/export to another page or another site. The only files that will be on your servers are your WordPress core files, the plugin files, and the theme files. As for the theme files, these are just the basic structure of a page. WordPress will be the one that will stitch them up together. For example;

WordPress core + Theme Files + Saved page information + Theme Options + Custom Styling = your actual page

The Template Manager can be used to back your pages but only those that were created inside Cornerstone. You can use WP Backup plugins to back up your WordPress site. If you have Code Guard, it will have a backup of your site at a server level.

Hope this helps.

Thanks for the detailed info. Very helpful!
