Header builder: Left navbar/header position: absolute?

I would like to achive a transparent header effect with a custom header layout using Absolute Positioning with the navbar on the left side. When choosing the specific layout in the header builder with the bar on the left, I do not see an option to set the bar’s position to “absolute”.

Is it possible? If not, how else can I achieve the same effect, i.e. the content jumping left to be behind a transparent navbar? So it would look something like in this mock-up:

My entire page is built with the Layout Builder and dynamic content from ACF. I guess I could build in a navigation block into each layout, but it would be much easier to do it globally with the header builder. Thanks in advance for help!

Hello LD,

Thanks for writing in!

The fix positioning can only be found in the Bar element;

or using the DIV element:

Best Regards.

When the bar is on the left, position value is not available. Please see screenshot!

If I put a div inside the bar, the problems is not solved, because the bar’s position itself is still relative.

Hello @lumot,

In order to help you with your concerns we need to check your settings I would request you please share your details in the secure note. Please provide the following details

  • WordPress Login URL
  • Admin-level username and password
  • Exact Header Layout URL

You can find the Secure Note button at the bottom of your posts

Thanks

Hello LD,

Regretfully what you have in mind, "the content to jump left “behind” the navbar while the navbar is in an absolute position is not possible with the Header Builder. You can only have a Fixed Left Bar position or Fixed Top position. You may need custom CSS coding to be able to achieve what you are trying to do with your header. Be advised that custom CSS coding is beyond the scope of our support under our Support Policy. If you are unfamiliar with code and resolving potential conflicts, you may select our One service for further assistance.

Best Regards.

I understand and that’s fine.
(Not sure why you needed my login credentials to tell me that. I am not super excited about the policy of always asking for credentials, because you didn’t need to login to my website to tell me that the side bar cannot be positioned the same way as the top and bottom bar.)

Hi HD,

Sometimes, we need the credentials to investigate the settings you made and what you are expecting to acheive. In your case also, to understand the expectation and check the settings as per it our colleague asked for the credentials.

Thanks

Thanks. In this case I respectfully disagree. My questions were very clear and could have been answered straight away. In my very first post I asked a question about the header layout on the left side, yet I got an answer showing a top bar, not the side bar, etc. The very first answer could have been: “If you choose the header layout with the bar on the side, you won’t be able to set its position to absolute.” And that would have been that - no problem!
The problem with all support people, not just Themeco, but the world over, is that you never read the questions properly and so the customer always has a big back and forth. I will avoid posting in the future. As you have wasted my time and I have now wasted yours.

Hello LD,

We apologized for the matter.

In addition to your build, you can switch to the Blank - No Container | No Header, Footer page template and then insert a section at the very top in your custom layout. With the help of CSS coding and the DIV element you may able to achieve what you have in mind. Again, the CSS coding is beyond the scope of our support.

Best Regards.
