General V6 Question

  1. I know this has been discussed in other threads but I still think it’s really odd that the default option for headers is a section. For example, if I were to load up a brand new header I see the prompt below by default. Clicking on one of the layout boxes creates a section > row > column layout. So to circumvent I have to ignore the preview prompts and instead backup into my outline where I add a bar

  1. I have poked around and cannot figure out how to add a header bar left / right / bottom like in previous versions. Where do I find this and can we make this more accessible? Because wherever it is, it is hiding.

Hey Josh,

look in the header settings

Obvious isn’t it

Oh and I agree about section shouldn’t be the default for a header

@DoncoMarketing, thanks for sharing this again. I still have a note down on this and it is being discussed internally, but no formal changes have been made at this time. Definitely something we are keeping an eye on though.

Thanks for jumping in on the multi-region header, @scotbaston. Yes, this is more hidden now on purpose to allow people to progressively discover some of the more advanced features of the builder.

Thanks!

This is something I 100% agree with. The default should be the bar.

If not, at the very least I think the “bar” should be renamed “Header bar”.

Finally “Multi Region” is not intuitive at all. In previous beta’s I clicked this on and off and had no idea what it even did. I’ve also commented on all of this in other threads but it keeps coming up. Perhaps a tool tip or the ability to hover with some extra info telling people what it is could help.

If people in the beta, familiar with the Pro tools, are struggling how are new users going to experience this.

I can see the support forums bogged down with queries on how do I make a sticky header, etc. etc.

@urchindesign - agreed.

@kory - I’m not sure I fully understand the reasoning behind the header defaulting to a section?

Even page “sections” no longer default to a section. Additionally, 95% of the time, wouldn’t users want a bar for their header? It’s the only layout element that has header specific features like sticky, keep margin, shrink, absolute vs relative

While I totally get use cases here and there for sections as headers – it seems far less common / intuitive. At the very least couldn’t the default prompt simply request a selection vs assuming you want a section? Something like the below?

(Though, for the record, I still think it should just default to a bar and section should be a tertiary option)

Thanks, guys. We’ll see what we can do here.
