Error message upon saving pages

Hello,

I noticed that each time I save a page, I get the message “Are you sure you want to do this” “please try again”.
I also tested this with all 3rd party plugins de-activated. Same issue.
And I also updated the theme X just two days ago.

I never experienced this before with other themes in my other wp websites.
Please help, because this is very time consuming.

Regards,
Kurt

Hello Kurt,

Thanks for writing in! This error message is not related to the theme or Cornerstone. This is a WordPress specific issue. To troubleshoot this, please check out these articles:

Hope this helps.

Hello Ruenel,

First, I didn’t use cornerstone for the pages, I used visual composer.

I read the info on the links you provided.
I setup up wordpress sites on a regular base, with each time the same small set of plugins,
and this error never occurred with other themes.
My setups use the same hosting provider, same server configuration etc.
I didn’t reach the HP memory limit and I didn’t change the theme myself.

So, please take a look, you have already access to the site (see my other support tickets)

regards,
Kurt

Hi Kurt,

I tried to login but the credentials is incorrect. I also check credentials from other thread and it is not working too. Please double check. For the mean time, try switching to default wordpress theme and check again. Note to save a backup first.

Hello Lely,

The username is themex
THe credentials are working, since your partner was able to login.

Hello There,

I was able to login and I can confirm the issue. This could be caused by a 3rd party plugin. Your site is live so maybe youcould try testing for a plugin conflict. You can do this by deactivating all third party plugins, and seeing if the problem remains. If it’s fixed, you’ll know a plugin caused the problem, and you can narrow down which one by reactivating them one at a time.

If the issue still exist, please re install X theme and Cornerstone. There might be some files that were corrupted. You can review our update guide and see the Manual Update section to re install X.

If still nothing is working, please provide ftp so that we can investigate further.

Thank you.

Hello Ruenel,

Although I doubted the outcome, I still followed your advice to find the error.
I completely deactivated ALL plugins except for the cornerstone and visual composer that came with ThemeX,
and still I get a “Are you sure you want to do this” “please try again”.
Even when I make a blanc page with just a title.
Next I tried with the default WP theme, but the error was still there.

The error finally disappeared after I disabled Cornerstone, so please look into it asap.

Regards,
Kurt

Hi Kurt,

I tried to check again and it seems working now: https://screencast-o-matic.com/watch/cbX2jP2bdy
Did you reinstall? It might be due to corrupted files. I have tested it on existing An X test page both on the draft page and the published one and both saves correctly.

Hell,

I did not re-install yet. I left it untouched and not working, so you could verify.
But the problem still occurs!
Please try making a new page and publish it.
You will see the error immediately.

I included a video that shows the steps to reproduce the error.
Please don’t wait another day to respond.
TIme is running out for us to deliver to the client.

Hi Kurt,

I tried creating a new page and can see the error.

I would like to look deeper into this issue but the ftp login provided no longer works.

Can you try removing Authentication Unique Keys and Salts from your wp-config.php file
and see if that fixes the issue.

It was suggested on this link - http://www.wpbeginner.com/wp-tutorials/how-to-fix-are-you-sure-you-want-to-do-this-error-in-wordpress

Make sure to backup everything before trying it.

If it still doesn’t work, I would suggest reinstalling wordpress.

Thanks

Hello Paul,

Removing the Auth. keys and Salts is really not an option.
Wordpress depends on the safety of these salts, without them, the security behind authentication becomes weak.

I updated the ftp credentials. The ones in this new secure note should work.
It’s clearl that there is something wrong with the theme.
The issue disappeared when I de-activated the cornerstone plugin.
Please fix this!
I never had this issue before and blaming wordpress is too easy.
Re-installing and subsequently losing pages, media etc. is also not an option because we are running out of time for the launch and it’s simply too much work.
FYI: this IS a new clean wordpress installation.

Rergards,
Kurt

Update:

I completely re-installed a clean Wordpress and the themex.
The problem still occurs!
To reproduce: follow the steps from the video in the previous post.

Hi there,

Which is why you have to change it for some time, it’s attached to a user session and probably passed and processed for cookies. And anyone who could hijack your site’s cookies may be able to gain access to your site. it’s like a password that you may have to change from time to time.

Change keys every now and then. One of the WordPress.org APIs generates authentication keys and salts and you’re free to use it. It doesn’t take more than a minute to change these via copy and paste. All compromised cookies are suddenly invalidated.

Since you re-installed it again, then it probably has different salt and keys so please ignore or you may still do that.

I like to check the issue too but this is what I’m getting accessing your login page

Geen toegang

U heeft geen toegangsrechten voor deze pagina.

Access denied

You are not authorized to access this page.

Have you blocked other countries? Please disable that while we’re checking, please note that this isn’t related to theme or plugin. But the capability of the account, you may also try creating new admin accounts for testing.

Thanks!

Ok,

After the re-install,
I generated new salts,
created a completely new administrator user,
cleared all browser caches,
logged in with the new admin
created a new page

And I still get the same error!
I repeated the test also in another browser, but also with the same error.

I did not block any country, and yes the login page http://fotospecialist.be/admin is perfectly accessible.
The admin and ftp credentials of themex are also working properly.
But remember you need to add the ip to your host file because the site is not publicly accessible.

Unitl now, with each reply from themex, I have followed each step one by one.
We are not making progress and the issue is still not resolved.

Note : I als updated the Cornerstone plugin.
Important: WHEN I DEACTIVATE CORNERSTONE, THE ERROR DOES NOT OCCUR

Please, in stead telling me what to test next, I suggest you people try to solve this.
It’s been 14 days since I notified the problem!

Regards,
Kurt

Hi there,

I can’t test it, it still inaccessible from my end. How about setting back your login page to default Wordpress login page for now?

Or yes, maybe it’s the IP, but what’s the IP that we should add? I tried the IP the same on your FTP and this is what I’m getting.

The account which is hosting this domain has been temporarily disabled.
If you are the owner of this account, please check your e-mail and contact support or your sales representative.

I’m more to happy to check the issue and confirm if it’s related to cornerstone than going back and forth with the login

Thanks!

Hello,

The screenshot you included is from the old site, which is not the new I am working on.

You need to adjust you hosts file to access it.
Add 83.217.74.158 fotospecialist.be to your hosts file and clean your cache and restart your browser.

Hi there,

Thanks, after waiting I’m able to log in now.

I think the issue is file system permission, I can confirm that as I deleted the cornerstone plugin to let the theme install a fresh copy, and the theme failed to create the folder. I tried manual installation with the same result, so perhaps, there is no write or execute permission with your installation.

And when you save a page, there are features loaded from cornerstone which isn’t working since it can’t execute, hence, triggering that issue. I recommend fixing that issue, even if you install it again since you’re on the local machine, there is a chance that it will still the same (since you only bypassed the issue by installing it again directly to the folder).

I recommend setting up an online staging where the environment is really made for hosting. I’m not saying do it on your live site, but perhaps a sub-domain? It’s easier to migrate since it’s on the same host than moving it from a local site.

Thanks!

Hello,

This is not an offline machine, it’s the actual hosting on which the new site will be.
The installation is done on the /www folder which will be the future public folder for the hosting.
Installing of the theme was done by uploading the zip through the theme page within wordpress, not by copying the folder by ftp.
No other data or website are present on this server, this is a clean install on a new hosting account.

Can you please go into detail which specific permissions are needed for cornerstone and tell what the next steps are?

Regards,
Kurt

Hi there,

In that case, could you try installing cornerstone? The theme can’t install it, and even by uploading the zip package.

You can upload the zip package located from /x/framework/plugins/

Thanks!

The re-install of corenerstone helped, but frankly, this proves that somethign is actually wrong.
I installed themex on a clean wp installation including cornerstone.
If that process as such isn’t going like it should, you huyg need to fix that
