Error activating Modern Events Calendar

Received this error activating MEC:

Plugin could not be activated because it triggered a fatal error .
Parse error : syntax error, unexpected ‘->’ (T_OBJECT_OPERATOR) in /home/…/development/wp-content/plugins/modern-events-calendar/app/libraries/render.php on line 1009

other plugins were deactivated and this was a fresh install of pro

• MEC 5.10.0
• PHP 7.4+
• WordPress core 5.5.0

Everything is up to date but the PHP. Waiting on our host to update and we’ll see if that rectifies the issue.
